Re: Mildenhall Air Fete 1982 SR-71A & U-2R

Imagine if SR-71's were operating from Fairford now instead of the returned U-2's....!

Re: Istrana [LIPS] 30th Anniversary of AMX

The AMX is a cracking little jet. Always looks like a single engined, single seat, fixed wing Tornado to me.. probably due to the lines and similar tail.

Liked its display at RIAT a couple ish years ago. Proper pocket rocket.

Re: NOTAM 14/11/2019

Light snow on the ground in Fairford town earlier. Still on the roofs and cars but melting elsewhere so may not have much of an effect on any movements now.

Re: Helicopter deck landings

Having done a stint on 78 Sqn as one of the squadron ops clerks at MPA late 98 early 99, I can confirm the Sea King crews regularly trained with the resident picket boat. In fact it became essential training, as whilst I was down there one of the Sea Kings carried out one of the longest SAR mission...

Re: Tornados, Harriers and Jaguars - a Cosford Night Shoot

Very nice.. yet a little bitter sweet. Are the Tornados still 'runners' for ground training purposes, a bit like the Jags once were?

Re: Movements 25/10/19

10 to 11 hours endurance on that airframe without refuelling still seems amazing to me. I know it has wing tanks but the fuselage is pencil thin and the wings are very thin too. How they get enough fuel in something so small to fly for up to 11 hours is an amazing feat of engineering. I know it's ef...
