Re: Strategic Defence Review - 2025
I would have thought RAF Fairford would be a prime choice, given that it is already a military airfield, not too far from Brize and much less busy than either Prestwick or Birmingham airports

Re: Strategic Defence Review - 2025
These are the Recommendations: Recommendations for the RAF: 46. The RAF must stay at the leading edge of combat air’s evolution, through the transition from exclusively crewed combat air platforms to a Future Combat Air System (FCAS) with a mix of crewed, uncrewed, and increasingly autonomous platfo...

Mr P won't take it lying down though. He'll want to pay back in kind unfortunately.

Re: LN Strike Eagles going home
Somebody, somewhere decided in the not-too-distant past that four squadrons of FJ's were required at RAF Lakenheath. Has 'somebody' decided that is no longer the case in this unstable world?

Interesting read ....... https://www.defenseone.com/policy/2025/05/trumps-f-15-basing-decision-adds-air-forces-training-troubles/405152/ It is an interesting read - as much as anything because it suggests Trump is trying to micromanage everything rather than leave it to the expert long term planner...

Re: LN Strike Eagles going home
Some of the resident F15E's are registered in F/Y 1991, which is the year that their procurement was authorised IIRC. So they will be at least 30 years old. That said, I noticed that the F16's here recently from Aviano wore registrations in the 1980's

Re: Merlin on low loader A303
Hi guys, My friend is currently traveling along the A303 passing Middle Wallop heading west and has sent pictures of a Merlin being transported on a low loader. Does anyone have any information regarding the airframe? He unable to pass by as it’s taking up two lanes. Thanks. Photography when drivin...

Re: Donna Nook range closed for lack of staff
Presumably these ranges are staffed by RAF personnel. If so where are they based? Cranwell, Coningsby, Marham? A mix of RAF (Controllers and management) and SERCO do the ground work Might as well close the place or put it on permanent "opened by Notam" RAF Air Weapons Range Controllers who are spec...

Re: VE Day 80th
I guess this change happened because they could not muster four F35's and/or four pilots because they are all at sea!
Just read the RAF Marham post of this morning which estimates that there should be 13 operational F35's at the base.

Re: Jaguar landing on M55 April 1975 - 50 years ago
That's interesting and thanks for finding it. Certainly proves the point that operations can be carried out from motorway-type roads, but I was a little puzzled that the first frame showed a curved section, which might well prove a little tricky for military aircraft operations!

So he proved that the Jag could land and take-off on a public road. Did they ever subsequently do that whilst in service with the RAF?
