RIAT and the future

Morning all. With RIAT 2019 drawing to a close, it's now time to start looking at the future. Lots of controversy flying around everywhere. Whilst sharing drinks in the bar in fairford village, the owner spike to several enthusiasts about next year's RIAT being the last one or the last to be held at...

Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2019 Discussion Thread

Photos of the aircraft clearly show the arrestor hook still in position.

Re: Sunday Display Times

Assume that's just a rumour. No bird strike was reported and it appeared that the rear of the left stabilator had delaminated I got that information from Gloustershire Live but they've since added "Confirmation when we get it" There was no bird strike. The stabiliser trailing edge structure failed ...

Wonderful. Those grey aircraft certainly look a hell of a lot better with a bit of blue behind them!

Great selection

Probably because they don't need to! One flew earlier.
Or did their validation at Yeovilton cover them for RIAT too?
They did not validate nor need to validate for yeovilton as that was not a display. They were only doing the full display at riat only.

Re: RIAT 2019: Arrivals

Did anyone else see the US F-16? Wow :Wow: he flew the backside off that aircraft was very very impressive, hope it's as good for everyone at the weekend as it really was something to see. But was it as good as the A-10 in 2011. That sticks in my memory. He also took the trophy for best individual ...

Doesn't seem to be aggressor markings. More like individual panels changed that probably have sensors etc fitted. After all, this aircraft is still flying under testing......

Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2019 Discussion Thread

Entirely agree that RIAT has lost its way, perhaps it should become a bi-annual show as it once had been and feature a much stronger central theme. This year there are fewer funds across the Globe, and Countries like France are heavily committed to conflicts like Mali, and they had Bastille Day las...

Just do away with Friday and just stick to arrivals and PDA (if necessary). Show days sat/sun only. It always worked that way.

Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2019 Discussion Thread

Seconded, on both counts ;) There will be a few disappointed people, and I can't disagree... They hyped up this "surprise" flypast so much, and they certainly did surprise us with a shocker...Celebrating 50 years of Airbus with a flypast of more non-Airbus aircraft than Airbus?... :S :S  Love...

Re: A400 woes in the news

There is nothing wrong with the way the engines are mounted on the wing. The main problem is with the gearbox on the back of the engine bearing in mind that the props turn in different directions on both wings. Initially the complete engine had to be removed to replace the gearbox but that problem ...

Re: A400 woes in the news

The main problem is the way the engine is mounted to the wing. Huge error in design which mean an engine change could remove aircraft from active duty for up to 5 days. It is a horrendous design, honestly, but that's only the tip of the iceberg!

One of the ex dodgy islanders - just can't keep away from a military airfield

Do islanders launch or do they float serenely into the air?
As they are still undertaking the same role, they always will.
