What about pilot training ? The current Mirage / Skyhawk pilots might be able to simply read the notes and fly the F-16. Different thing to take them to war ?Nighthawke wrote: ↑Wed Apr 17, 2024 2:03 pmAge alone doesn't define the capability of an aircraft so don't know what your point really is.
Did you know that registration to Fighter Control is completely free and brings you lots of added features? Find out more....

The drones will normally operate between 20:00Z and 05:30Z and will climb out in a resticted danger area to the north west until above FL500 and civvy traffic. They will then be free to route east as required. Has to be a reason they'll only be flown under the cover of darkness. Probably less confl...

Was a regular visitor to Waddo in them days, dont recall any parking issues. Before WAVE that area and hardstands in front of the air ambulance / fire training areas were accessible.

Remember those French Jags and Mirages III, V and F1 April 1990 and 1991. Were they French AF exercises or part of Mallet Blow / Elder Forest ?
Another great day was the 50th Anniversary September 1990 Battle of Britain must have photoed 30 x Tornado's based aircraft and RAFG visitors.

www.nato.int/cps/en/natohq/news_219907.htm?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=natopress&utm_campaign=20231115_awacs Seems NATO have agreed to replace its E-3 fleet with six Wedgetails from 2031. Let us hope that some common sense comes about and the RAF cooperate with NATO and form a joint operation plan...

Thankyou very much for the reply. I had my doubts about XW533 as being taken on the same day as XW530 but thats what the ticket said.

Mildenhall Airshow 1986
Two questions -
Which SR-71A flew on Saturday 24/05/86 either 17960 or 17980
Also on arrivals day Friday 23/05/86 I have photos of Buccaneer S2B XW530 HF 12 sqn and XW533 AS 208 sqn
although Scramble only list XW530 at the show ?
Thanks for any help

Take a look at Spottingmode.com They can provide Google overlap maps for airfields, just filter for the military ones. Also download the Wrecks and Relics files, most European military bases have a gate guard or museum collection nearby or in the local town.

Exactly as you describe it "square D" is more like a squadron badge rather than airbase tail code. I doubt the USAF system would allow a single letter either.

"There is a high percentage of commonality between the two types"
I am sure the Lockheed Martin sales rep said the same. LOL
Avionics and airframe may be similar, but engine/fan and importantly operational procedures totally different.

Strange when you consider the point of forward deployment should be to be self supporting, yet the the USAF want to operate from another American base ? Assume Mildenhall area can provide accommodation where as Waddington area options are limited and more expensive ? I expect the Norwegian F-35A wil...

Firstly I am not a number collector so have no idea about telescopes. But how do the optics on a scope and a camera compare ? I have read tail numbers from digital photos, indeed a friend of mine uses that method to record / confirm all his numbers. And its not all about 500mm lens, with a normal zo...
