One of the few aircraft I really wish that I'd seen more of, the TU-22M3. I didn't realise that this would be the only time I ever got to see one. I recall they allowed sitting in the cockpit.
Awesome photographs!

Re: Bruntingthorpe - 23 March 2024
Really nice to see the airframes in good condition but such a shame they're 'inprisoned' in a compound. Very sad demise of the airfield activities as it once was ☹️ Yes its such a shame after all the great events, and the funding to move and reconstruct the QRA sheds to be unable to use the runway ...

Re: Warning!? Waddington and other airfields
No, it isn't, that's been a long burning debate. It's not private, it's public down to the end. Provided you're out the way and to the side you're not causing any issues. Police frequent down there to and never have had an issue. It was an issue when people kept on walking around the corner was the...

That and people, even parents with kids, wandering down the access road past the 'PRIVATE' signs past the usual burger van. It even says no aircraft viewing! I may be old, but in my book thats trespassing. You can even see the wallies on Google Streetview!

Re: Warning!? Waddington and other airfields
Out of interest, how many civil airports can you stand directly behind the thresholds and in the immediate under/over shoot areas. I know of some ie: St Martins, Skiathos, but can’t think of any in the UK. Stansted's northern end - you be very close if not under the landing lights. At least it did ...

Re: Help for the USAF
Where are these lasers sourced from? Where are they imported from? Stop the import and make owning these 'weapons' an offence. The same treatment and legislation as for handguns - with the resultant penalties. Exactly my thoughts. Sadly lasers can be bought for legitimate reasons eg. Astronomy for ...

Re: Camera/Lens for overflight photos at 33,000 feet
I use a Sigma 150-600mm Contemporary with a basic Canon 2000D and can get pretty good results - the biggest stumbling block for me are configuring the manual settings, but practice makes perfect (I'd be happy with better!)

Re: Countdown to Looking Glass
And of course, the film I was shown at school as a child in the late eighties 'Threads' - I've still no idea why such a depressing film was shown to such young children, it really showed the despair and hopelessness endured by those who would survive a nuclear attack. Worth a watch if purely for nos...

Countdown to Looking Glass
Over the weekend I stumbled upon 'Countdown to Looking Glass' on youtube - a film from 1984 depicting a spiralling crisis that leads to nuclear war with Russia - and it's beginnings as a skirmish with international shipping in the Straits of Hormuz - all told through the eyes of US news reporters an...

EC-121 at Airfete
I seem to recall seeing an EC-121 Warning Star at Airfete - however I can't find any photographic evidence other than in 1978 - yet I was two then, and the airfete I attended were in 1984, '86 and '88 (and all the rest from 1990 onwards.
Am I misremembering? Or did one appear in 1984 or 1986?

Re: 892 NAS Phantom at VL Air Day 1977 streaming chute in flight
I've seen a shot of a Phantom pilot deploying the chute before landing touchdown, so not as wild as it sounds. Airtime Phatom 'Spirit in the skies', Jon Lake and David Donald. Can't find my copy, so can't say the page. Great book nonetheless. I would imagine like other aircraft it can be jettisoned ...
