Re: RAF Boeing H-47ER

So will these new chinooks have a refuelling probe like people keep saying " they are just MH 47G". If so, will we have to reley on mildenhall hercs to refuel them? Suspect the USAF doesn’t have much spare capacity, they will have based the numbers there for their needs, also not sure the USAF woul...

Are there any based in the middle east?
Not sure there's a permanent need in the Middle East now, given there isn't too much of a UK troop presence there, if at all. There were some deployed to Mali in Africa for a number of years but I'm not sure they are still there.

Re: V-22 Osprey Grounded

Don't expect to see the USAF Ospreys flying any time soon though. Quoting from the above article, a phased return to flight is planned: "Phase one of AFSOC’s return to fly plan includes ground and simulator training integrating planned flight controls, safety briefings,... Edited " My question is "...

Re: Warning!? Waddington and other airfields

There have been fatalities over the years where uninvited persons have gained access. A lot of time and effort then ensues for the network operator to show their inspection and maintenance records to prove they have done everything they should. Cannot recall any specific cases going to court but I ...

Re: Warning!? Waddington and other airfields

You can get pretty close at Gatwick. There's a footpath from the railway station that runs next to the main road at the eastern end, you can get close at the Western end as well. Both good views for landing, not so good for take offs. When i worked at LGW I used to do the walk from the South Termin...

How can deliberately standing in line with a jet efflux be anyone's fault apart frm the idiot(s) doing so? Off topic but along the same lines: thieves break into electricity substation to filch the copper and get electrocuted - who gets blamed - the electricity company. Just another example of blam...

Re: Help for the USAF

Why dont the base use drones to hunt the people down, with latest technology they have, would put a stop to it,max penalty £1000. Theoretically good, however given that potentially even around Lakenheath, and the immediate vicinity, the area would be many 10's of square miles, not sure a drone would ...

Re: Dunkeswell and Portland.

A cracking set of photo's and thanks for sharing. By no means a criticism, more a point for clarity, you refer to the WAH-64E in the photo filenames, I'm not sure this is correct. The WAH-64D was so designated as it was a unique UK design with different engines and specs and also apart from the firs...

Re: Lakenheath - nuclear store

Lakenheath has to be the base to site the nukes. They need to be where the aircraft are based. Also lets hope the cnd lot dont take over the viewing area! Knowing are Police they will be making them tea,and checking there not cold ! That's rather insulting to the police tbh, don't fall for the cult...

My respect for you, assuming you're WWII veteran B17 aircrew who's experienced 'real' to be able to make that statement?

Re: Tanker Trouble - Analysing the RAF's Tanker capability

Morning, Interesting, but surely the 'contract with HMG to sole supply the RAF's air-to-air refueling capability' should mean boom aircraft if required, although having said that i doubt the MOD thought about future proofing the contract when it was written to include any change in the hardware req...

Re: Mildenhall KC-135s to go low level regularly!

So in their words, they go lower to get closer, but then have to pop up anyway to refuel the receivers at the required height, are they really going to be saving huge amounts of fuel? Trial and error, I suppose. Without knowing what they’re specifically training for it’s difficult to picture. I tru...

Re: Mildenhall KC-135s to go low level regularly!

"The training is essential for flying below hostile radar, enabling closer proximity to the front line with increased fuel capacity for receivers". How do they work that out? The lower you fly, in the thicker airmass the more fuel you use - they'd end up with less fuel not more. With the use of the...
