Re: RAF BINBROOK hangar & flightline tour 5th August 1987
Great pictures and background info 3greens. I’ve said this countless times before, but for someone who would have been too young to appreciate it at the time, these pictures are a great way of trying to live vicariously through others’ experiences of Binbrook and the Lightning. I regularly drive thr...

Great pictures of what would have been my local RAF station had I been alive then. I understand excellent for spotting, hard to imagine now - too many trees!

Re: Proposals for RAF Scampton
Looks like it’s all happening. It’s sickening and screw the snowflakes!! Whilst I appreciate the anger and fear (fear constructed and conflated by the media!), I fail to see how anyone can take issue to this? Given that it is a Government (MOD) facility that has for years been surplus to requiremen...

Worth a mention, though I’m not sure how they will be able to keep the airfield open. Won’t be cheap. Still, the intention is there to be sensitive to heritage, how long that will last remains to be seen.

Re: Reds Departure
Informed today the Reds depart Tuesday PM. The airfield NOTAMS and restrictions will end October. P.} So is Tuesday truly the end of the Reds at Scampton? Yes. A sad day for the locals P. Indeed, something you learn to take for granted. I often see them practicing in the distance from here in north...

Re: Reds Departure
I see that Syerston is to host the display practice between January and April, presumably with a view to this becoming permanent. So is Tuesday truly the end of the Reds at Scampton?

Thank's all, although it's news I never wanted to here :) What about the two Historical Flght Phantoms ? So do we know the MOD's plan for the future, or lack of, it at Glorious RAF Scampton ! It seems over the passed few years what with Covid, Ukranian, and now her Majesty's death ! There is no end...

Re: Defence Review Overview
How about starting with a horses mouth assessment; https://www.cpni.gov.uk/national-security-threats If there is to be a ‘Cold War 2’ - as you seem to be alluding - then I see Britain only playing a bit part in it this time around, if at all. CPNI is an extension of MI5, which is why your link prim...

I think some view of geopolitics here are also still based on that era? There's a good report here which explains how Russia could easily turn the world order upside down by making NATO look militarily weak, the EU look economically weak, and the world stage look politically weak simply by sending ...

Re: Defence Review Overview
Some do have short memories- Remember the NATO E-3s deployed to the USA after 9/11 Not exactly a full blown war mind Not sure I understand your point? They were deployed to bridge a cap, as USA had assets deployed elsewhere, and were used as a knee jerk reaction to ‘protect US airspace’ against hig...

Re: Defence Review Overview
Forgive me but I thought the cold war ended 20 or so years ago Why is it people still think we are in danger of being invaded by Russia the biggest threat to the UK is from radicalised individuals hell bent on death and destruction not from other countries , and a 1000 typhoons would do nothing to ...

Re: Defence Review Overview
Hi all, Bearing in mind that Russia is believed to have at least twice the number of fighters that the RAF can put up (I'm not wanting an argument around actual figures, let's just say they can overwhelm us and the USAF in Europe by shear numbers) ! It does not matter how good the F35b and Typhoons...

Re: Defence Review Overview
The Reds are keeping Hawk T1s. They are not getting Hawk T2s. The Command Paper does not give a date for T1 retirement. And take U.K. Def Journal copy with a handful of salt, they merely repackage other folks’s output and often rebroadcast incorrect material. Which therefore makes the Reds long ter...

Re: Defence Review Overview
The Hawk T.2 is the only logical aircraft to fly with the Red Arrows, mind you this is the UK MoD making the decisions. It could go one of two ways I think; 1. In a bid to inject confidence in British industry, an order is placed for the T2 variant sufficient to fulfil the need of the Red Arrows. O...

Re: UK to increase number of nuclear weapons in SDR 2021
Being an NHS employee I would much rather see this ££ being spent on the much needed services that the NHS offers. I have to agree w/ some of the other posters on here. We are not a ‘world power’/player etc. & as stated before we probably haven’t been since the start of WW1. However because we were...

Re: Reds to Waddo next week
Just reading an old RAF Yearbook for some other research. It states in July 2008 "the Red Arrows will move from Scampton to nearby Waddington by July 2011. The team will continue to use the dedicated airspace above Scampton." Obviously no-one has dusted off the files from that previous attempt! Hav...

Re: New Wedgetail surveillance fleet to be based at RAF Lossiemouth
We all know governments past and present have spent millions on base upgrades only to announce a closure. Not saying for one moment this is intended with Waddington but unfortunately we have seen this scenario played out too many times. However I’m sure the airfield has a bright future, with or wit...

Re: Reds to Waddo next week
R313 airspace will stay at Scampton, so the Reds will practise there. It'll mean crash rescue and ATC will have to stay, thereby not saving much money. The whole process of looking to move the R313 space has been a bit of a farce with the conclusion (again) that Scampton is the best place for them ...
