Re: Places to stay near Lakenheath?
I live in Brandon, The Great Eastern ( right next to the rail station) is reasonable, as is the Ram, both good value for the money, but not luxury. The Bridge Hotel is lovely but a bit more upmarket. The Bell on the high st has some new rooms out back, but no idea about them.....BTW my spare room on...

Runway open?
Has the runway reopened now? Because at approx 8 PM tonight 4 F15's certainly appeared to have taken off from there! I live on the runway 24 flight path only a couple of miles away and they ascended following the usual take off route. Thanks

Re: 5% Savings and £1B from Defence - What goes?
With involvement in Iraq and the Typhoon gap in air to ground capability, I cant see the Tornado going anytime soon (except 15 sqd? ) , it is more cost effective to keep Gr4 than fast forwarding Typhoon. I guess P8 or such on hold. And perhaps the closure of Leeming?

I was thinking the same, I have never seen so many C17's coming into the Heath. There must be some reason?

Squadron returns?
A lot of activity coming into LN just before 8AM this morning, must have been around 12 planes coming into land. I can only guess it was a squadron returning from deployment? Any info? thanks in advance.

The gr4s in the vid are only carrying lightning pods, no raptor or weapons.

Re: Reports : -RAF Tornados may deploy to Middle East
Just my thoughts. but if we are using GR4 as our most capable air asset, then I would think RAPTor was the whole point? ....... unless the mission was actually "armed" Reconnaissance?....... BTW what weapons fit can a GR4 go out with, I seen the RAPTor with PWIV but can they carry the recce pod with...

Re: Lakenheath night flying 19th to 22nd May 2014
Does anyone know if it's the C's or E's on night duties? Also with RAF Typhoons and the F15's being in the same area over the North Sea at the same time last night would it be fair to assume they were having some play time together? Just wondered!

Re: Russians occupy Crimea
I assume the additional F-15's will also come from Lakenheath. * Note - I've posted this in the Ukraine thread as - errrr - I think this development is related to the current situation! The Baltic mission has been going for 10 years now - see: http://www.nato.int/cps/en/natolive/news_106114.htm The...

Re: RAF retires ALARM missile
well seeing as ALARM has never been mentioned as a future weapons fit or integration on to existing systems ie typhoon, then no surprise, the game changer is that the government no longer sees our capabilities as one nation. Even in the Falklands era we precieved a unilateral strike with shrike foll...

Re: Tornado Weapons (?) Question
Did see a BAe pic once with a Tornado loaded up with 12 Brimstones, with 3 missiles on 4 of those pylons, on the shoulder stations. I read somewhere that a pair of GR4's flew a mission with this weapons fit during Operation ELLAMY, with the Brimstones in "legacy mode". One Tornado fired off 6 then ...

Very sad news, Pavehawks have been very active the last couple of days, one was low over our house in Weeting this evening. Thoughts with family and friends.
