Yes the ANG on their way home to the USA from Germany, tanker issues apparently so while awaiting a divert they did missed approaches only at Staverton, and then finally off to Mildenhall, but I’m sure we all know that now.

U-2’s operated as normal during IAT ‘95 when they were previously deployed to Fairford for missions to the Balkans, IAT was far bigger then with twice as many planes arriving over the three days as there are now. Also the U-2’s departed before the first arrivals were due in each morning and returned...

The visit was a training trip but also (most probably) a fact finding trip in relation to handling / accommodation, etc possibly with more visits in mind.

Yes there was a big KC-135 painted on the hangar along with the titles European Tanker Task Force, back in the good old days of the tanker TDY’s between 1978 and 1990.

Just saw him as he turned east to the north of Worcester, interesting view side on this time as I missed him overhead.

Couple of B-52s have taken off, but I have doubts that there will be any U-2 flying - but hope to be wrong!

Would hope the U-2 didn’t go up, they are a sod to land when it’s a dead calm!

Thanks skywatcher. The fog is lifting at 07 end and now have visual on all 4 birds. One has quite a lot of equipment hooked up to it at the moment

They usually turn east over Worcester, but occasionally carry on up north of Birmingham.
