Re: Update on Fairford

I wonder who owns the land. Wittering wouldn't close as its owened by the Burleigh estate, and the land would have to be returned cleaned normal fields which would cost a lot (and lots£££££££££££). Maybe its not the usaf that would foot the bill, but the mod might.

Re: RAF Mildenhall to close. Lakenheath to get F-35 by 2020

I remember a visit to the 100th and a pilot told me about the wing clearances of 18 inches. The KC-135 take off with only a maximum of 80% capacity at best, they say a gust of wind or bumpy runway is way too risky, especially with the wings bouncing at take off. I don't need to say grounding an engi...

Re: RAF Mildenhall to close. Lakenheath to get F-35 by 2020

People go on about the length of runway the RC's use for taking off due to fuel they carry, which is probably true. I think theres another factor too. The new larger engines lave a lower ground clearance ( I've heard as low as 18 inches!), so none of the 135s ever launch fully loaded, tanker or inte...

Re: NO VIEWING AT RAF SPADEADAM

I remember sitting up at the car park during mallet blow and elder joust exercises, then the FACS in the carpark with gazelles on the grass in cront of you! Massive disappointment to see them do that, fingers crossed they don't. I always thought it was a public road with some houses at the end.

Re: TR-1/U-2 Patch

Thats a nice authentic 1980s patch, sometimes worn on the pressure suits. Now, it should get you around the £10- £20 mark, it depends on who is after it. You don't see them that often and its in good condition. Nice piece of Raf Alconbury/Beale AFB history.

Todays movements

Not sure if I should ask, but did anyone note the CV-22's on the ramp today, plus the KC-10, RS C-130 and what looked like an Alabama KC-135.
Many thanks.

I have just been given permission to use a photo of the cookie monster! So this is the full story of a patch that eluded me for years and its story took me a year to figure out too. Its not often you come across a story like this with a patch. http://jollygg.blogspot.com/2019/04/38th-arrs-osa...

New rescue squadron patches and scarf

Happy New Year. I struggle to post pics so the easiest way is to do it like this. I picked up some new pieces over the Christmas period. 56th Rescue Squadron http://jollygg.blogspot.com/2019/12/new-56th-rqs-aviano-ab-hh-60g-jolly.html?m=1 Sikorsky tech rep in Vietnam http://jollygg.blogspot.com/202...
