Re: Shackleton WR963 at Coventry, return to flight!!!
Hi all. Just a quick drop in by me to remind you all about the 9th July approaching, whch marks 25 years since WR963 touched down at Coventry and entered preservation. She's come a long way, and a short distance in that time. Usually you can find her providing shade for visitors and occasionally kil...

Re: Vulcan ..A very hard act to follow...BUT
It was only big and recognisable, and generating significant interest in the public once it started to fly. Or have we forgotten how desperate things became for XH558 during the restoration when the money ran out?
VTTS have learned over the years how to do their PR very well.

Re: Vulcan ..A very hard act to follow...BUT
Hello Rich, Thank you for your comments. By "we", I did not refer to your group but I mean "The UK Plc". I happened bye Coventry one weekend months ago and was very impressed by what I saw. The fact that your group & many others accomplish so much is highly commendable Because there is so little he...

Re: Vulcan ..A very hard act to follow...BUT
We do not seem to get our "act" together. A Shackleton at Newquay and one at Coventry, both work in progress, neither in a hangar. A perfect project for ? I can assure you, we have our act together - and the lack of a hangar is due to the fact that there's only one place big enough at Coventry to a...

Re: WR963 - SttS?
Hi all, Its great to see some attention turning our way, we never thought so many people would suddenly ask "What now?" after XH558 flew for the last time. We are still working to get WR963 flying again, and things are stepping up. We have the first round of our HLF bid being submitted in December, ...

Re: New kits from Airfix for 2015
Not quite messed up, the difference in equipment fit isn't that far off, which is why if you can find the earlier parts you can retro fit the 1:1 example as w're doing currently .Most of what we're fitting has come from an MR3. Unless an aftermarket supplier wants to make replacement 1/72 Sonics 1C ...

Re: New kits from Airfix for 2015
Only slightly in the later aircraft, Phase 2 and Phase 3 The desks are all in the same position but with different equipment fit (ASV21 and Sonics for the MR2, AN/APS 20 scopes for the AEW2), and there's one navigators position on the AEW2 rather than the two on the MR2. The second navigators table ...

Re: Classic Air Force to Close, Planes to be Sold
I was perhaps too wishful to see the Shackleton back in the air swell. Maybe this is now unlikely to happen but VTTS proved that anything is possible once the public get behind it. Hang on to your wish - our Shackleton is not part of the fleet, we are just housed there with our long time friends at...

Let me guess... no access to a belt sander to get the rivets off?

Re: New kits from Airfix for 2015
If its MR3 you wanted Revell had you covered with the old FROG reissue, despite rivet sizes to the extent you could use it as a file, the shape and detail was pretty much spot on. I built a few, including a botched attempt at an MR2 conversion.

Re: New kits from Airfix for 2015
We've been in touch with Airfix about the typo's; as in 1967 WR963 was in the grey with a white top and serving with 205 Sqn. The 204 Sqn version should obviously be Singapore for Tengah, not Indonesia. Having seen the Airfix offering right from the CAD model development, I can assure you they haven...

Re: New kits from Airfix for 2015
A nice article from Airfix, and an update on the Shackleton. They had the sprues on display at Fairford and it looks extremely good! http://www.airfix.com/uk-en/news/workbench/5334/ Only just noticed this - If you believe what he says. My Revell rep had a very different story when I was told ...

Re: Avro Shackleton WR963 - updates
Hi all, I thought I'd post a little update into progress over the past couple of weeks. As always its two steps forward, one back as the run up on 2nd May did not go at all according to plan. The event itself? Fantastic from our point of view. The crowd must have easily been a couple of thousand peo...

Re: Shackleton WR963 at Coventry, return to flight!!!
Thanks to all that made it happen! We hit (and surpassed) the target. As soon as the Kickstarter ends, we'll be cracking on sorting the rewards out, and also getting things organised to get deep inside some parts of WR963 that haven't seen daylight since her last major.

6 days to go and less than £1500 to hit the target! Please help us if you can by pledging or sharing the link, it makes all the difference. First public engine run of the year is on May 2nd for Airbase's reopening, so if you haven't heard the Griffon growl this year now's your chance! Kind regards, ...

Hi all, With 13 days to go we're just over £8000 towards our structural inspections. We really need your help if we're going to make it! Besides the taxi run, there are also Griffon pistons, a Michael Rondot Shackleton print, polo shirts and other things available as rewards for different levels of ...

To add to the last posts - here's a a look inside the wing from a few weeks ago. Great photos! We certainly hope the hard work will pay off... the steps left to flying are becoming fewer and more defined.

Re: Shackleton Taxy Run planned - and you could be co-pilot!
Hi chaps - we're up past £6k with 20 days still to go! This is the first ever time we've had the begging bowl out in public; and we've held it off as long as possible (some five years or so since we started heading this direction). Please, please help - even if its just £1 it will make a difference....

Shackleton Taxy Run planned - and you could be co-pilot!
Hi all, I know there's already a topic running on our Shackleton at Coventry, and normally I post updates in there but this month we have something a bit more interesting going on. We've started a Kickstarter project - basically a crowdfunding attempt - to help raise funding for NDT and structural i...
