Re: Log: 16th July 2024
Hi Mark, Your Gazelles are; SA.342M, 3865-GAN SA.342L1, 4229-GEX. If you used a scope this one has a really big ammo box port side and a long barrelled mini gun on the starboard side. This was flying today without doors. The NH90 is a TTH version, 1484-ECD They were flying in formation with ZM715 & ...

Re: FRIAT 2024
I don't normally comment on this part of the forum but having spent over 40 years in security and policing I find this current situation a joke. To be aware of all current threats is no bad thing but there's also no need to forget about that little thing called common sense. There could, quite easil...

Re: Another quiet day
You're reading much too much into this! The current main gate and visitor parking areas are woefully lacking and interfere with local traffic. QinetiQ have applied for planning permission to move it further along Stockport Road. There will be a new security/reception building and control of access. ...

Re: USA Centennial Of Naval Aviation Feb 2011 North Island San Diego
I attended the pre show day and the event itself and have photos of anything I saw. I didn't get onto any of the USN ships. I can gladly send you a list from my database but not until after 10th July as I'm away, if that helps you at all. Cheers, Norm

Re: Korean T50 flying
Photo proof shows all codes identical to that previously posted.
They are relocating to Fairford on 13th July and back to Boscombe 18th July so previous rumours were incorrect.
The planned Indian A F helicopters have cancelled so no C.17's into Boscombe.

Re: Norwegian Bells at Brize
To follow on from Sean's previous. I asked to take pictures through the fence and the offer was politely declined. The MOD on site are now sending the gate guards out to 'discourage' anyone stopping and taking pictures. I'm told it's the Norwegian pilots that have caused this to happen as they are n...

Re: Norwegian Bells at Brize
Kevin, These are 'behind the wire' at Rollestone Camp just west of Larkhill. Road is narrow & heavily used by mil vehicles & the fence is not good for shooting through. Small steps are ideal. Beware of the razor wire topping! There's a gravel car park of sorts opposite main gate and it's a short wal...

Re: buddy refuelling question
Somewhere I have a photograph taken by DERA of an RAF Buccaneer dry contacting with a Tristar. I believe it was ZD950 which was still at Marshalls of Cambridge. I think this was 1989 or 1989. There were issues with the airflow from the front of the Tristar and of course, limited fuel available from ...

Re: Farewell, AH.7
Chris,
Thanks' for the log, you've missed out XZ651-O (Lynx 4)
XZ184-B, was the airframe that completed the 'backflip'
You're picture signifies both 7 as in AH.7 & 7 Regiment, AAC, so I was told.
Shame about the lack of sun when flying though.
Norm

Re: Bad day for Phantom Lovers
In response to HQ2, it's a bad day for me in that now we've moved outside of an MOD base and could have put 597 inside our new home, we weren't offered a bid at all! 401 is not in a good state and I would have chopped off the cockpit and saved that, again we didn't get a look in. The new owners are ...

Bad day for Phantom Lovers
I can confirm that both XT597 and XV401 have been sold by MOD Disposals Agency, so they not be making the move to Old Sarum or form part of the Boscombe Down Aviation Collection. We were not informed they were for sale nor offered to tender for either of them. I am unable to confirm the intended fat...

Re: Boscombe Down Aviation Collection
Thanks Gary, Forgot to mention the Sycamore! We left it behind in order to get a trailer to accept it's 11' wide undercarriage and will need to notify that as a wide load. It is going to make the journey though. The Meteor also needs notifying at almost 23' wide, real fun when it gets on Wiltshires'...

Boscombe Down Aviation Collection
Further to what has been reported here and elsewhere, I can confirm that the majority of the collection has been moved to Hangar 1 south at Old Sarum Airfield and will be open to the public from 1000hrs tomorrow (Sunday 1st July). Initially we're having a preview week, to see how we get on! Inside a...

Can't comment on Clive (I don't know him) or Globemaster (never been with them), however I have been to Greece and generally enjoyed the whole thing. Four of us, flew to the north, picked up a hire car and started travelling south. 95% of bases allowed photography, of their static operational aircra...

Re: Lightning Road Runner 3/2/11
Guys, Westfields is a storage area that used to be part of RAF Chilmark, this site is all above ground. It is a left turn off B3089 at the western end of Dinton village, travel down about 800m and it's the gate on the left, approx 7 miles out from Salisbury. The site consists of several very large s...
