Are these ZM serialised Apaches new build machines or are they the old Ah64D models that have been recycled upgraded and given new serials (like the Nimrod MR4s would have been)?
ALL AAC Apaches are new builds, whether ZJ or ZM serialled.

Here is an Apache AH1 airborne above an AH-64E at Wattisham earlier this year. Horribly backlit as per normal here at that time of day and year.

I wonder why our new AH-64E don't have the ASPI Upturned Exhausts.
No idea, that would be an easy recognition feature!

Re: Apache AH1 vs AH-64E, 3rd June 2021.

Nice one Tom, really helpful to see them "side-by-side" like that, surprised I managed to spot quite a few differences, but you really have to look. No problem Tony. From any sort of distance there are only 2 really distinct differences. 1. The very large VHF antennae immediately behind the 2 black...

And other question. How do you know it is ZM700, the serial is taped over?
Slight differences in the stencilling. Differences in the taped up parts.

When will the new ones start flying? I believe none have flown so far and as 10 are now delivered I think it is time to start flying. :halo:
They have been flying in the USA since last year. They are not scheduled to start flying in the UK until next month.

Are they completely new builds?
Pretty much.

The dust caps from the tyres are re-used, the Longbow RADAR is re-used, as are a few other components. But the whole fuselage is brand new.

An hour at Wattisham earlier this evening with just Gunship 1 (ZJ230) and AA321 (ZJ221) flying. Still no sign of the new AH-64Es flying yet, but it won't be long.... Re: New QEAF Hawks

As an aside, the aeroplane carries a Registration number, as defined in JAP.100 (somewhere, I forgot where I left my note), not serial or tail number. A colleague of mine many years ago actually went into the office who allocated these and there was a big dusty ledger, like something out of the Vic...

Re: Wattisham 12th May 2021

Check! I was searching in the Scramble Military Database and there the newer AH64E's are called AH2s, but that's not sure at all then. Makes those 4 Apaches at Eindhoven even better, as it were 4 new ones for me haha. Jos I think Scramble have just made an ASSUMPTION. It MAY prove to be correct eve...

Re: Lakenheath spotters carpark

I've never noticed those signs before, but that sign itself doesn't really give any information as to what "PROTECTED" means.

Does it mean you cannot even walk along there, or you cannot build a new house there? More clarity would be helpful.

Forums like this live by the good and timely information provided by the minority of contributors.

Like most forums/groups the vast majority of people do NOT actively contribute, they just take.

If the 95% or so were purged off, would that make the mods task easier?
