Re: RAF Nightingale (formally London City Airport)

Hope we get some decent news footage although I'd rather it wasn't necessary in the first place.

Lockdown

With the enforced stay at home I'll be looking at what I've got at home tucked away, I haven't picked up the glue and knife for 30 odd years, it could get messy. Anyone else?

Re: XX741 on speed test

Oh yes I know full well there couldn't be any air under the wheels. I read somewhere once that the cost of getting the Sea Vixen to the threshold without taking off came to about £6k with everything factored in. Not to mention the admin workload. I know that here the chances of fast jets flying in c...

Re: XX741 on speed test

How tempting must it have been to just ease back on the stick? Great to see, jet looks in great condition, well done.

Re: COVID-19 UK

Its bonkers. The tube in London has to be the most likely place to catch it but there's no mention of measures to counter that. Outdoor events in warm weather are low risk.

Re: BBC Licence fee

So the TV screens are all blank, no radio, website non existent? I do agree non payment should be decriminalised and the payment model needs overhauling, but not drivingthe BBC into a fully commercial organisation. When I worked at ITV the news provision that was a requirement of their OFCOM licence...

Re: BBC Licence fee

I'm sure the likes of ITV, C5 etc or any company in the world would love to be given £3.83 billion like the BBC get from licences fee each year for doing nothing

They take the mickie for what they put on crazy money
Compared to what? How much is Sky, Amazon, Netflix etc? You pay more throughout the year for ITV, C5, Freeview channels, and get less, you just don't see it as a separate charge.

and now the BBC intends to spend 87million on a new EastEnders set that would be better spent on the NHS and they talk about wasting money.
That is bit of a stretch as an argument against the licence fee.

If you check into the figures for appearances on Question Time you'll find they show a huge anti-Brexit bias.
What figures? Can you post your source?

Re: BBC Licence fee

Ok. There quite a few misconceptions in this thread. Overseas radio is paid for by the Foreign office, not the licence fee. 'BBC Adverts' by which I assume you mean promos for future programmes etc. Are you telling me ITV, Sky, C4, History Channel, Dave etc don't do them? The Pensioners losing their...

Re: BBC Licence fee

If I choose never to watch BBC content, I still have to have a t.v licence, why should that be if the proceeds only go into their pockets? That is a valid point, but without the R&D done by the BBC over the years there wouldn't be Sky for sure, and the likes of Netflix and Amazon TV would still be ...

Re: BBC Licence fee

I worked it telly for 32 years. The BBC now is a far leaner and more efficient, and commercially more aware organisation than when I started. We can't have a sensible debate about the licence fee while people say there are 'hangars on' etc when there aren't. At the end of my telly time I worked in B...
