Re: Mr Grumpy whinge

I hate 'can I get'. At school we were told never to use get or got anyway, clumsy language we were told. To this day I try not to, 40+ years.

You probably flew over my house. First decent shots I've seen of the conversion, glad to see they have done a good job of keeping the classic profile. Jealous.

Haven't seen it yet - but interesting the clash of thoughts on the programme from Richard and Jimbo :O
I'm intrigued to see it now!
They're talking about different programmes, one was ITV, one was BBC. The ITV one was about the BBMF, the BBC one about the Battle Of Britain.

If you end up with any Biggin Hill duplicates I'd be interested in buying them, especially late 60s/early 70s.

Re: Inquiry re - date of last RAF Biggin Hill BoB At Home

I had a look through the Scramble lists, fascinating what we used to get and take for granted. I particularly remember the show I worked at as an AAC Scout arrived towards dark on the Friday and I helped marshall it in the hover into it's spot in the static on the RAF side, I can't see a Scout menti...

Re: Inquiry re - date of last RAF Biggin Hill BoB At Home

My local too. I'm pretty sure there was a show in 75, or maybe 76? I was a Space Cadet and helped setting out the last barriers and stuff on the Friday night around the static aircraft on the RAF side.

Re: COVID-19 UK

We must be in for a tax hike, either directly or indirectly. A lot has been spent to keep things turning which in the long run will lead to tax receipts, but a huge amount of money has been wasted, some of the measures taken have been good and genuinely effective, many others not so. The Eat Out To ...

Re: IWM axes flying legends for good.

No, it was a lot smaller and I believe couldn't be called an air display, hence a festival, but it has been growing slowly. Ticket numbers were limited too, those vocal nimbys in action. They tried to put an end to the air fair after the A-26 crash but the value to the local economy won out. Then we...

"So that people who might wonder if a show could return to Biggin may understand why it would probably never happen." Exactly, thanks.

So has the Festival of Flight been done away with?

Re: IWM axes flying legends for good.

My question above was asking for genuine locations, not a wish list. I was wondering where it could be moved to that had capacity, airspace and transport links. Biggin would be my ideal as it's my local, but there's now consdierable biz jet activity there, and a fair few nimbys locally with big voic...

Re: IWM axes flying legends for good.

"I can only imagine the issue here is the price IWM wanted for use of the airfield opposed to what TFC were prepared to pay." That makes sense. Even next year public events will be run differently and more expensively, increased costs with fewer tickets to sell will affect viability.

Re: End Of Hope & Glory?

The BBC gets slated by all sides which says to me it's treading a careful path. Vulcan74 says "We should rename it the LBC ( Leftie Broadcasting Company ) " in that case why were Nigel farage and his followers given a disporportionate number of seats over the years on Question Time, especially given...
