nice shots which spot did you use thanks
For the afternoon sun shots I just walked to the north side of the lights at the 24 arrival end - where most people park for landing shots.
I think I may have been in your company for a while on Tues evening, down the track.

Re: USMC F-35 September 2020?

Stupid question time again... Are these going to be outside over the weekend or hangared. Sorry but someone had to ask 😂 Actually it is a good question especially relevant to the working spotter. I only have a stupid answer in that someone will have to go and have a look but my guess is that they w...

hi, are the Typhoons out on the field all day when not flying? when I do get to visit it will be arriving there about 1130-1200, so going by other posts the 1st wave will be landed or just getting back, would they get hangared then... stay safe, regards, dave... You can also usually see a few in th...

Its not closing,simple .
Whilst we all hope that is the case, at this stage there has been no announcement from either the MOD or USAF to suggest a reversal of the closure decision announced in 2015.

Hi spitfire88 I am sure it mentioned Mildenhall. Nope it’s says aircraft currently based at Mildenhall will remain in th U.K. At Mildenhall.Hard luck pal. Whilst we all hope that is the case, it does not specifically say they will remain at Mildenhall - If anything the open ended statement suggests...

Re: RAF Mildenhall to close. Lakenheath to get F-35 by 2020

Spitfire look at the USAF news section big topic in there. They had a big press conference. The closure of Mildenhall wasn't specifically mentioned, the only reference was that the 100th ARW & 352nd SOG would be remaining in the UK. cant see why they would move it all to Fairford Mildenhall, being ...

Re: Army, Navy, RAF severe cuts

I suspect Agent K is quite right in his assumptions. They'll flout the idea of a 20k personnel reduction and then we won't all feel so bad when it's 'only' 5-10k that get removed. There was even talk of the entire Royal Marines being gotten rid of which would be insanity. Anyone who possibly though...

Re: Coningsby Night Flying

How often do they night fly ? Is there any pattern how often it happens or just random. I notice the last time was earlier this month, so how likely is it to happen again next week when I am heading up there ? I always keep an eye out for Gary's notams. Thanks in advance for any info. The next few ...

Re: Red Arrows New Base?

That’ll probably be the kiss of death for future Exercises at Waddo, transfer them to Coningsby, as for the ISTAR residents I wonder who’ll have priority, them or the Reds😎 The 1, 2 or sometimes zero daily movements of said fleet should be easy to plan around the Reds. Sentinels are also going by t...

Re: F35 Manufacturer delivery

Are all 138 to be based at Marham? I'd say it's unlikely that the RAF would ever have 138 at any one time. If they do commit to purchasing 138, then early batches may be retired as new batches come in. All guess work though. They may yet still split the F-35 purchase into A and B variants with some...

Hearing rumours of Rafales (Rafaels? Ruffles? Rafaellos?) at Coningsby towards the end of the month.

Any substance..?
Rumours came from someone with a friend or relative on 3sqn. 3 sqn deploying somewhere and the FAF Rafales supposedly operating from 3's HAS site for a short period.

Not sure Waddington is really an option as it could impact on the operations at Cranwell, which in todays terms is relatively busy.
It's plenty far enough away from Cranwell's MATZ. Cranwell traffic can head south and use Barkeston Heath if required for circuit work.

Re: Red Arrows New Base?

wezgulf3 With the retirement of the sentinel at some point in next 5 years I think there would be plenty of room. Its not about room at Waddington, when the Red Arrows practice it shuts down the base, this would have an impact on Waddington's flying schedule. Wes... Which often ranges from 0 to 3 m...
