Not sure Waddington is really an option as it could impact on the operations at Cranwell, which in todays terms is relatively busy.
It's plenty far enough away from Cranwell's MATZ. Cranwell traffic can head south and use Barkeston Heath if required for circuit work.

Re: Red Arrows New Base?

wezgulf3 With the retirement of the sentinel at some point in next 5 years I think there would be plenty of room. Its not about room at Waddington, when the Red Arrows practice it shuts down the base, this would have an impact on Waddington's flying schedule. Wes... Which often ranges from 0 to 3 m...

Re: 28-10-2019 The Captain's log

Thanks for the log. What or who is team reedham? They're one of the other groups that sometimes do the logging at coningsby and tend to frequent reedham lane hence the monicker 'team reedham'. We all have a laugh together and often go for a curry at woodhall but we've not met up for a while hence t...

Nice piece,Rhubarb.Linton is a good place to be on a decent day.The Lightnings are quite frequent visitors doing their PD's,on the right day, when they're using 03 straight over my house!According to unsubstantiated rumours-we might be losing the Tucs but gaining some interesting visitors. And for th...

Re: Construction work

The next scheduled phase of works is supposed to be the upgrading of the eastern HAS areas when 9 and 31 squadrons operated from until March. I believe these are likely to be for the Royal Navy squadrons. Most (if not all) taxi and runway works are now complete.

Re: Trained Pilots-No Planes

So what happened to the Hundreds of Tornado pilots plus the Harrier and Jaguar to name a few. The amount of highly skilled and combat experienced pilots lost over the last 10 years is a national scandal. See Babcock have there fingers in the pie, same firm doing HS2. You can see where this will end ...

Re: Trained Pilots-No Planes

Should have been kept in house instead of contracting out! Privatisation costs considerably more and reduces overall control and efficiency! It’s all about cash flow and fixed costs rather than overall cost saving though. If you can spread your spend over, say, 25 years rather than paying most up f...

Re: Runway resurfacing Coningsby

There's a few threads about this now, with various rumours. Latest I heard was end of June, 3-4 months. Cobra Warrior to be solely at Waddington. 41 squadron to Warton. 29 and 3 to Waddington. 11 up north Leeming or Lossie. BBMF to remain at Coningsby and operate on the 1230 strip (the short disuse...

Re: Red Arrows RAF Scampton air base to be sold off

Basing the team at a station where other aircraft are used for training or operations puts a severe limit on what the existing based aircraft can do. In the "old" days, the Reds had six 30 minute display slots daily from Monday to Friday, where the airspace was 100% sterile to other aircraft. I con...

Re: Red Arrows RAF Scampton air base to be sold off

There are severe cost Implications for new hangars, maintenance facilities and associated upgraded and new infrastructure such as taxiways. This is because there is no spare capacity at Waddington. RAF Leeming sounds a better option as they are set up for the hawk already. 5 sqn Sentinals are sched...

Re: RAF Scampton after 2019

Any ideas on what will happen to Scampton when the Red Arrows and Hawker Hunter Aviation leave? Will go the same way as several other former expansion period airfields such as RAF Binbrook, West Raynham, Coltishall, Upwood, Watton Newton etc. Airfield returned to farmland, most runways, taxiways re...

Re: Red Arrows RAF Scampton air base to be sold off

I'd throw in my 2 pence worth. Leeming would be logistically the best option, having all the T1 fleet and maintenance in one base with training air space available at Chruch Fenton. As other's have mentioned CF is now a private airfield but Topcliffe (I think not due for disposal) remain in MOD han...
