Re: Strategic Defence Review - 2025
Also interesting that 12 35As are said to cost 25% less than Bs. Given we’re supposed to be increasing defence spending, you might have imagined we could have therefore either bought more of these or lessened the loss of the Bs. Nah. And as the A can carry more of and a wider selection of weapons (...

Re: Strategic Defence Review - 2025
Doors are still there from what I can see on GE. Although the runway, taxiways and HAS’s are still there, they are no longer fit for purpose and would require vast sums of money to bring back into use as intended, probably be cheaper building a new base from scratch. Only 4 current viable options f...

Re: Security and activity
The new signs are most probably to do with the National Security Act 2024. It is an now offence to photograph or video military installations from public land, it previously wasn't, but I wouldn't worry for aviation photographers as it's to do with potential hostile reconnaissance and 'auditors.' P...

Re: Strategic Defence Review - 2025
If F-35A isn’t an option then F-15EX would be a good if not better choice for a nuclear capable multi role aircraft, but at £10m more expensive than the F-35. Not sure how operating costs compare but i’d imagine the F15EX, would be substantially more. Not sure that boom equipped A330’s are vitally ...

That's why the new VC-25B (when they eventually get delivered) will not have AAR as it was not worth the costs.

Re: San Javier Airshow 2025
The Saturday is described as the airbase open day and show and the Sunday just the show. So most likely it is on the mil ramp.
Opening times etc in the link.

Sorry i don't know, just record the numbers. I assume it is some sort of update - it certainly takes a long time at the Cherry Point Fleet Readiness Center but no idea what they are having done. I thought Cherry Point is the main overhaul location for the UK F-35 fleet when they need deep routine m...

Re: RAF Woodbridge April1985
Lovely set of pics from another era - oh to go back to that time. I've never been to Woodbridge, but looking on Google maps, it looks remarkably complete and well looked after, with runway relatively clear and HAS sites all present etc. Could this airfield be reactivated relatively easily if it was...

Re: Going spotting at Ramstein/Spangdelham
Ramstein is OK from the Landstuhl side of the autobarn, the ridge/hill at Kinsbach gives good views of the transport ramps as does the Bismark Tower in Landstuhl (park at 49.405839385071985, 7.56106565921362 and follow the path through the woods to the tower). No hassle from these points as your wel...

Re: F-14s Rolling over.
There was the famous one in September 1976 off the Scottish coast (Scarpa Flow area), possibly the first F-14 lost actually in service. It fell off the carrier JFK and the USN went to great lengths to recover it as there were rumours of a Soviet ship having similar ideas of getting hold of it. http...
