Re: '70s Carrier shots - Probably from Ark Royal
My understanding is that 892NAS initially did their carrier qualifications aboard USS Forrestal - I used to know someone who was part of the detachment. There was a bit of a fuss because if you look at the RN F4 it has a super-long font nosewheel strut (which USN F-4's didn't have) designed to incre...

Trimphone. Can't beat it. Makes great phone calls, which is what a phone is for. Just don't stand to close to the dial

Re: North Island Fri-Sat 22nd-23rd Sept 2023
Thanks Steve - but are those times Zulu (as indicated by the Z) or local? If Zulu, then need to subtract 7 hours, so the two arrivals at 19:32 and 20:36 would have been 12:32L and 13:36L - and I'd have expected to have seen them from the boat trip on Friday afternoon - or at least parts of them to b...

Re: Tanker Trouble - Analysing the RAF's Tanker capability
🇺🇦 🌻 🇺🇦 In the past I have organised two visits to Mildenhall asking questions of KC-135 crews. If I asked the following questions,I have forgotten the replies. Has there ever been a program/me for a common probe on all NATO aircraft? That is, the receiver on both systems to be the same design. If ...

Re: Tanker Trouble - Analysing the RAF's Tanker capability
The basic problem is that the RAF/MoD/HMG do not 'own' any of the Voyagers. Airtanker do. Therefore the RAF cannot just decide to fit booms to some of the Voyagers, because they aren't the RAF's property. Airtanker have a (PFI) contract with HMG to sole supply the RAF's air-to-air refueling capabil...

IMV, you've completely overlooked the role that the Airtanker contract plays in all this.

Out on the ramp at 08:45 was
ZH842 Merlin HM2
Looked very clean, so may have been in for a re-spray.
Cheers

Download an inventory, and work out which areas contain the frames you are after. Then look at the area maps like this one https://www.flickr.com/photos/62861611@N08/52015870406. In general stuff which is in areas next to Escalante, Kolb and Irvington road are visible, particularly bigger stuff. You...

Re: USAF EA-37B Updates
One AP-3C (A9-657) was there for the Williamtown airshow last weekend. No sign of a second one as we took off from Williamtown on Sunday evening. And no sign of any AP-3C's the following Thursday. Tracking on ADSBx seems to show them operating out of Edinburgh during my time down under.

ZZ100 landed Yeovil 11:05, and may have overflown central Yeovil shortly after the 2 minuite silence.

Re: AFM - UK Defence Select Committee Report Article
Thinking outside of the Box if we require more fighter aircraft would the F35C be a possibility ? It's probe & Drogue refuelling, It's got a larger wing area allowing if to land at slower speed, longer range & Beefed up undercarriage to name a few differences. With the idea of operating from Off-Ba...

Re: AFM - UK Defence Select Committee Report Article
Nothing wrong with the airtanker contract. Airtanker have said multiple times they are willing to change the contract to suit RAF needs such as fitting booms to some of the fleet or allowing a few A-400M's to be fitted with pods so they can be stationed down the Falklands freeing the Voyager up tha...

Re: AFM - UK Defence Select Committee Report Article
If 138 is still the planned number of F-35b's (big questions over this still I imagine)....how long would it be before we reach full strength? Based on the current progress of 30 odd aircraft supplied in 5 years... this could take a further 15-20 years! Is that timescale realistic or indeed practic...

Re: F-18s at Miramar
No worries. If it isn't too much trouble, can you upload a picture of WS409? Best I can get is this https://ibb.co/pLY1Ypj https://ibb.co/MhJNrbk It was obscured behind SH-300 until that one taxied out to take part in the MAGTF. And the best place to see it from was right beside the security checkp...

I have all those, plus 168067/QB-067 and 170278/QB-278, plus Fat Albert 170000. 169230/QB-230 was on static with 166382 I think.

Re: F-18s at Miramar
The map is wrong for the first line of F-35's in the sheds. WL-08 should be WL-00. I'll update the image later (the memory stick with the file on it is at home).
