Re: Next week activities??
I have not been to LFA7 - i gather it is an act of faith unless you are in the know or in the the clique- more fun to rock up and see what happens I reckon It is a bit like that. Amazing how some turn up to see something specific and then leave. I am never in the know, so just book an airb&b for th...

Re: Strategic Defence Review - 2025
I would hope the review encourages no further slippage of the Spear 3 and Spear 5 missles, the first of which gives the F35B some teeth and the latter, assuming it will be VLS compatible will be able to be carried by the type 31 and 26 frigates, which, alongside the sub carried cruise missles should...

Re: Canada and the F-35
Philly1971 - your POV on F35 - very interesting. You talk about F35 reliability and daily flight ops from Lakenheath - which operates F35A. Sadly the UK didnt buy these, but a couple of questions for you - do you have evidence or stats re reliability of F35A versus F35B ? Is the F35B a more complex...

Re: US pausing Military aid to Ukraine
Changing the subject slightly, Slogen mentioned Jake had flown over Europe the other day, so wondering, since the US have announced they are not sharing info with Ukraine, has either the US or UK Rivet Joints flown towards the Black Sea area since, and more importantly doesn’t the RAF jet get topped...

Re: Canada and the F-35
I believe Saab were a close contender for the next generation Canadian fighter, with the Gripen. A fantastic little platform but lacking perhaps in the 5th generation capability and maintenance support intractructure. My feelings on the F35, I think it has its place in a perhaps multi platform air ...

Re: NATO Future
In history, The tango’d imbecile and unelected South African doos are around for 5 minutes. The same way they have reversed everything the previous regime has done, so will the next. So even if they withdrew from NATo or announced the closing of all European bases, by the time it was time to do it, ...

Re: Defence Spending
I think based on what we have seen in Ukraine, any new spend should be on developing drones as attack weapons, and then expand anti drones tech to defend. On the latter, we need more anti aircraft/anti drone systems to ensure no tanks or armoured personnel carriers are ever sent out without protecti...

Re: RAF to get F35A ?
. Anyway, I stick with my original thought, in that if we did have the money for more assets, then it should be more F35Bs. Easy to disperse, and no runway required. Huh? Don’t forget that aircraft are always heavier on takeoff due to having more fuel and, in some circumstances, ordnance, than on l...

Re: MoD Purchase 'Bird in Hand'
Taking it back to the original post, The Bird in Hand pub, I think it summed up everything that’s wrong with British Pubs, especially chains, of which the BIH was part. I think it may have been a Green King pub, of which I have no major issue, but of course it meant it was exactly the same as every ...

Re: RAF to get F35A ?
I think I contributed to the drift away from F35s to HAS. Again talking of which, I spent some time in Bodo, Norway, in the summer. Sadly the airbase is now gone, but they still have plenty of HAS left, including a proper underground bunker capable of holding their original Starfighters safe from a ...

Re: LA Fires
The thing is, in nature, fire is mostly a good thing. Anyone spent time in Africa knows that scrub is regularly burned, otherwise grass gets stale and of poor quality, plus certain plants need the fire to germinate. The main issue now is with an ever expanding human population people have now built ...

Re: RAF to get F35A ?
Ever heard of Satellites, with real time reconnaissance it would only take a few moments to find out what HAS’s were occupied. Things have changed greatly since the Gulf War especially in the Precision weapon department, one a/c could take out a whole base of HAS’s from distance. Not sure what leve...

Re: RAF to get F35A ?
Just like Covid bought back the QR code, I think the Ukraine situation has bought back the HAS. Having a £60m aircraft sitting in the open, at the mercy of a £300 drone with some explosives strapped to it would be madness. You have armed forces as a deterrent, something that can mobilise if required...

Re: Potential RAF Typhoon Tranche 4 Order - 25 Aircraft
Sadly, with the cost of government borrowing jumping in the last few months, it’s more likely that massive spending cuts will need to be announced by the government, assuming they want sterling to be worth more than a Zimbabwe dollar in a years time. Based on the fact we have children still sitting ...

They are starting with the best (F15). Thats all they need. They could have scrapped the other 5 shows and saved a bob or two.

Re: Lakenheath Visitor Summary - 2024
Thanks for the updated list. I was actually going to start a new thread but you have answered my question, which is, how many times have the RAF visited Lakenheath this year. The 48th seem to do many PDs across the RAF bases, but I wonder why the RAF don’t seem to replicate. Three F-35Bs and one Typ...

Really upset. Happiest time in football is seeing Manure down in the bottom half of the league. Should have kept Ten Hag as it was perfect. Let’s hope the new manger is worse, although my sides may split through laughing so hard.

Re: Scam .
Sadly, with AI getting better, these scams are going to be more difficult to stop. If you get a chance, look up Gary Schildhorn on YouTube, where he testifies how he nearly fell for a con where AI was used to replicate his son’s voice on the phone. This is early AI tech, so can you imagine what’s go...

Graham Thorpe
Absolutely devastated to see the passing of Graham Thorpe. A brilliant batsman for England and Surrey, who saved us countless times during his long England career with his brilliant and determined batting. A classic gritty left hander who averaged over 44 in test cricket. Also always came across a q...
