Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2020 Discussion Thread

We're very excited to share with you that, subject to operational tasking, we are hopeful the UK F-35B Lightning and new RAF P-8A Poseidon will appear at this summer's Air Tattoo, representing the airshow's two themes for 2020; Fast Jet Combat Air Power and Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissan...

Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2020 Discussion Thread

I would have thought with the volatile state of the word's security at the moment it would be very hard to tie down any show participants at the present time. not sure how that affects display teams like the frecce and reds etc. even if we end up at war with Iran, i can't imagine we are going to se...

Re: FRIAT 2020

One thing I would suggest, if you venture away from the beer  and drink the free water. Take some juice too take the edge of the water. It doesn't taste the best, my mate usually remembers to take one of those Robinson fruit shoots. Much better in 18 it didn't matter what it tasted like as it ...

Currently in Leeds and considering popping down there on my way back. Is it as busy as Lakenheath can be?

Re: what lens to buy

if you are not sure what lens you want, then at this stage don't spend any money. keep saving, keep practicing then when you know what you need, you can be sure your money is well spent. one other small point that i find helps. with continuous focus, if your focus is linked to your shutter button th...

Re: what lens to buy

it's a good enough camera (ultimately, all cameras will do the same job), but in the aviation game i wouldn't be upgrading to a camera which has less frames per second personally. listen, i'm not going to tell you how to spend your money, but from your photos i've seen, and the conversation you hav...

Re: what lens to buy

just seen you have a 7D. hate to be a kill joy mate, but you have 18mp's on there. so unless you are cropping to print onto a massive print, that's more than enough for most use. the next step up will likely be 24 mp's which really isn't going to make that much difference. more megapixels does not i...

Re: what lens to buy

i wouldn't bother with such a small step up to 400. if you are going to upgrade from a 300, i think you'd want to extend up to a 600. cropping doesn't instantly mean your picture will be soft. that will be focus as much as anything. if you haven't got the camera set right, learnt how to pan the sub...

Duxford Air Festival May 19

Bit later than others have been on this (sorry), but thought it was about time I shared my take on Duxford Air Festival. I ended up doing both days and friday afternoon. It was as usual a challenging show with the heavily documented sun location and the incredibly changeable weather, and it was my f...

RAF Lakenheath, 6th March 2019

I finally did. I finally lost my Lakenheath virginity!! I've been meaning to go down there for a long while. I mean, it's only 45 minutes or so from where I live so I just had to right? Anyway, I popped down there and took some photos. Here are some of them. https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7910/47307...

Re: RAF Marham 23rd Jan 19

Good to see them aired for the massif who didn't get a ticket for the near 'exclusive event' today. Weather so nearly played-ball too by the look of it. In shots 2 & 4 the 'specials' appear to have some new retirement sensor fitted above the canopy ;) but I see they are gone in the air-to-air shots...
