Re: 48FW F-35A delivery summary (33 as at 18/05/2023)

True, next batch is shown as fiscal 22.
But on the list 682 is shown as re-serialed to fiscal 20.

I see f16.net are now showing 22-5682 as fiscal 20, another funding issue?
Looking closely at the photo it does look like 20-5682.

Re: Which is noisier?

Did anyone ever experience the XB-70 take off on full burner. That's one bird I would have loved to see fly.
Surely it must have been the noisiest ever?

Re: Which is noisier?

Worked on Lightning's at Coltishall for four years in my RAF days, never went near them without ear defenders. But easily the noisiest earth shaking body jelly I have ever experienced was standing on the mound at Mildenhall on the Sunday after the 69 show when the B-58 Hustler departed. Even B-1's d...

Note to myself "do not write correspondence when not fully awake"
When reading my missive above, please replace boom with probe in all cases. Thanks.

Re: UK AAR Provision into the future?

Surely this discussion revolves around the purchase price of new aircraft, its cheaper to buy of the shelf than have booms fitted. It's not and never was the problem with AAR in the UK. We chose Probe & Drogue a very long time ago. When I served in the RAF in the 60's to my knowledge all our aircraf...

Re: A10 65 Field access

This field has for many years been an area of special interest. I had a conversation with an Elvedon Estates manager a few years ago in the field and asked him why no notice was posted to this effect. He didn't know. Been waiting for something to happen ever since. Suspect that current movements coi...

158222 VP-40 unmarked 222 on nose.

Anybody know if the rest of the sqn are routing our way? I understand this Bahrain deployment is VP-40's final one before stand-down.

Re: UK Orders Wedgetails

I seem to remember that all 707,727 and 737 models have same fuselage cross section and built on same jigs hence same nose. C-135 models built on different jigs and have a smaller fuselage diameter so different front end. Hence probe fit should be straightforward on E-7. I did say should?

Re: RAF Mildenhall to close. Lakenheath to get F-35 by 2020

My apologies should have been 493rd with C, slip of finger. Still think shortage of air defence plus inability of 35 to carry some of the current C weaponry ( one of the reasons quoted for putting 15X into production with C's running out of fatigue life) will see changes in planning for future. We w...

Interestingly 495 FS reforming as first 48th F-35A Squadron maybe suggesting 492 with the C staying on a bit longer?

Re: The RAF at Red Flag

Worked on Lightnings in the early 70's and have great memories. The Lightning oxygen regulator was the governor for time at height. Talking to OCU instructers at the time, 60,000 ft was the official limit and that was also safe handling height. A zoom climb over that altitude required a lot of nerve...
