another factor could be the autofocus speed of the lens, I'm no expert but when I started with DSLR a few years ago I was using a 350d with a Sigma 70-300mm 1:4-5.6 DG and found the AF just couldn't keep up with anything, all my photos were very soft and majority were out of focus, I did some invest...
