There's always something to learn. "Aviation in itself is not inherently dangerous. But to an even greater degree than the sea, it is terribly unforgiving of any carelessness, incapacity or neglect." Those wise words accompany me on every flight.

Flying anything is much more difficult than it was made to appear.
Flying isn't difficult and all the flying GM did was pretty easy. Funny watching him looping. Flying accurately takes skill and practice.

Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2024 General Discussion Thread

Easy peasy. Very efficient. Checked your bags then checked your ticket. I had a BIG rucksack full of stuff which went through the scanner. Didn't enter at a peak time though but took less than 3 mins end to end.

I'd have thought basing at Lossie for a weekend and displays and flypasts at a few strategic places in Scotland would be a great work up before the start of the season.
Nice idea and I hear the weather in Scotland is glorious at that time of year.

Re: RAF Coningsby - Turbo1 Practice 04/04/24

Lovely set. Some superb shots and I agree that it's nice to see some colour coming back to the fleet. Hope this will progress to the F35's. I wonder if this is due to Wokey Wigston moving on? Best you can hope for on the F35 is a few red and white markings. They're limited by the stealth paint so n...

Surely it's manpads that pose the risk to A-10's these days.

Re: Yorknite 2023

Think it's the same plan as the last few years. Three sorties per day, the first being after 2pm. Most to the 323s but some to Spade and a navex via LFA17 in the first slot. Mid way through the exercise they'll swap crews so all get night qualified.

Re: Atlantic Trident 23-1.

Seems consistent with a recent RAF Leeming FB post... The Station is about to enter a period of significant additional aircraft movement, with several exercises operating from here in the run-up to Christmas. From the beginning of November, RAF Leeming will host multiple aircraft types for sorties w...

Re: Another Exercise for Waddington

Thanks. With this being for Atlantic Trident, guess RAF Typhoons / F35s and USAF F35s (don't think there's USN or MC in the area?) would be the other particiants flying from their home base? Is this exclusively an A2A exercise or is there some LL included?

Re: F18's o/h Prestatyn

For the record the Fri 22 Sep sortie was scrubbed. There was a biblical rain shower mid afternoon in LFA17 but the weather was good when they'd have been coming through. I did look out for them.

They've been doing the loop then heading north for the Lakes LL. Hopefully another sortie today giving different crew a tour of the UK countryside.

Much obliged for the response. In March, on a Friday, we had Saudi's through LFA17 at 14:35L and Belgian's at 15:20L. Fingers crossed for a repeat with the Canadian's although no snow this time.

The jets will probably fly twice a day, every day, except Monday for the LN and MH stuff.
Including Friday? If so, will it be an early finish like normal ops?

Re: SAAB JAS-39E Gripen - Dump and Burn RIAT 23

Not really sure this qualifies as an intentional 'dump & burn' of the Aussie F-111 days? Seems to me that all Gripens that perform a neg' G manoeuvre force fuel up to the fin vent, which then ignites if the reheat catches it? Be it a vertical 'bunt' (Swedish) or horizontal (Czech) manoeuvre the fla...
