Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2025 General Discussion Thread

Shame no US Navy but a fantastic contribution from the good old US of A none-the-less.

Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2025 General Discussion Thread

To whet the appetite, US Navy are still invited on the RIAT website, as were Pakistan until moved to ongoing. Current embarked squadrons are: Fighter Squadron (VFA) 37, “Ragin’ Bulls” F/A-18E Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 213, “Blacklions” F/A-18F Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 31, “Tomcatters” F/A-1...

Re: Notam for Fuel.

Thanks for the response. While the closure of a local refinery isn't ideal and rail freight from Essex seems crazy, with good planning supply should still be possible. Unless that is, there was an unexpected peak in demand and the supply chain couldn't respond quickly enough. Interesting situation.

Re: Notam for Fuel.

Putting a few more wind turbines in the North Sea will sort that out.

More seriously, I wonder what the root cause is? Logistic? Limited supply?

Re: RIAT 25 Sunday Schedule - Any Ideas?

The show often starts with a fast jet and ends with a display team. Jets are spread out throughout the day i.e. you won't be waiting long for a jet even if it's not the very first display. This year seems to have more choppers and less display teams but these too are spread out to provide a balance ...

It's still interesting to compare settings. How about exposure options?
Manual - set aperture to taste - set shutter for aircraft [prop 1/100s, jet 1/1250s] - Auto iso

Thanks all. Looks like it'll have to be next time for the EXs. By then they should be regulars in the Sidewinder.

Re: LN Strike Eagles going home

A bit OT but do you know when Fresno will get their first EX? I'll be passing through in September / October and will stop by Fresno if they've received aircraft. In regards LH getting EX's, I'd have thought that unlikely. A third F35 sqn is more likely due to logistics, training and spares availabi...

Re: CVN-81 and anti DEI measures

CVN-84 is likely to be last of the Ford class of carrier so the next vessel and thus class should be Trump class carriers - if aircraft carriers are still needed in c.2040.

Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2025 General Discussion Thread

i dare say it will be a great show regardless but, not fantastic ticket sellers so far.... Is that true? Enthusiasts will likely buy a ticket because it's the biggest show in Europe. The general public will buy a ticket because its a nice day out and the Red Arrows are flying plus there's some othe...

There's always something to learn. "Aviation in itself is not inherently dangerous. But to an even greater degree than the sea, it is terribly unforgiving of any carelessness, incapacity or neglect." Those wise words accompany me on every flight.

Flying anything is much more difficult than it was made to appear.
Flying isn't difficult and all the flying GM did was pretty easy. Funny watching him looping. Flying accurately takes skill and practice.

Easy peasy. Very efficient. Checked your bags then checked your ticket. I had a BIG rucksack full of stuff which went through the scanner. Didn't enter at a peak time though but took less than 3 mins end to end.

I'd have thought basing at Lossie for a weekend and displays and flypasts at a few strategic places in Scotland would be a great work up before the start of the season.
Nice idea and I hear the weather in Scotland is glorious at that time of year.

Re: RAF Coningsby - Turbo1 Practice 04/04/24

Lovely set. Some superb shots and I agree that it's nice to see some colour coming back to the fleet. Hope this will progress to the F35's. I wonder if this is due to Wokey Wigston moving on? Best you can hope for on the F35 is a few red and white markings. They're limited by the stealth paint so n...
