Re: Mallet Blow exercises ??

Used to happen a fair bit... hope you got a shot? The usual FAC at Wiley Sike was a top bloke called Tristram if anyone remembers him - think he was TA?. Guess they dont do 'bombing' at Wiley Sike these days? "Tristram" that name rings a bell. I assumed they were all Special Forces, as they looked ...

Re: Mallet Blow exercises ??

I think it's time I dug out my "I was bombed by a buccaneer" story !! :Wow: ( hopefully....some of you here were there to confirm it's true ;) ) T'was a normal FAC exercise at Spadeadam, a bit further down the road than the usual place at WileySike me thinks ?? The range...

Re: Mallet Blow exercises ??

Hi there Tiger-G, We're both of a similar mind. I've digitised and filed all my exercise pics as I realise their historic worth. I use an ION Pics 2 SD Film/Slide Scanner which does the job easily to a decent standard. Not expensive and does nt take up much room. You can do 6 negs at a time. Result...

Re: Mallet Blow exercises ??

Here are some of my pics from what I believe were Mallet Blow exercises at both Spadeadam and Alwinton. Now these are Iphone pics I took today of blown up photographs that I intended to get framed, but never did, taken originally with a crap camera and lens when I was a young whippersnapper (no pun ...

Re: Mallet Blow exercises ??

I'm sure I remember jets making it into the "valley within the valley", where the flagpole was ?? Jets flying through there lower than the level of the flagpole ?? I remember thinking what a sight and sound that must have been for the people who stayed down near the flagpole !! :Wow:

Re: Mallet Blow exercises ??

Andyph: "Tiger would you be a tall lad from Sunderland, dressed in black motorcycle leathers on the day?" I am tall, and was rockin' an 80's mullet back then, and from Hartlepool.....not too far from Sunderland. I can't remember if I still had my old black leathers then, or my newer red/white ones ?...

Re: Mallet Blow exercises ??

Just wonder if anyone was at Otterburn (Alwinton) for the August 1990 Mallet Blow Exercise. It was the week after Sadam invaded Kuwait. If you were there you might recall the red finned XV sqn Tornado - every pass that week was mind blowing - I have seen lots of super Low passes but he was very spe...

Re: Mallet Blow exercises ??

Hi Pete, I wrote the Low level section of 'Lowdown' with my mate Paul Jackson who did the radio bit - glad you enjoyed it. I'd written a little guide called "Unseen Airshows" before that. I still have lots of Mallet Blow pics on slide from Spade and Otterburn - should really digitise some of them. ...

Re: Mallet Blow exercises ??

Hi Pete, Did you ever digitise your pics and post them online ?? And if not, will you ever get round to it ?? I'm gonna make a concerted effort to do mine next year. I remember "Low Down", it introduced me to the low level places in the UK too. Still got it somewhere 🤔. I was at Spadeadam on a regul...

Mallet Blow exercises ??

Hi :) I was reminiscing with a fellow old fart spotter today about the old Mallet Blow exercises in the '80's and '90's, where we had up to 150 low level fast jet movements a day through Spadeadam and Otterburn. I had a look online for any low level photographs and there are very few. Probably becau...

Re: Registration difficulties.

Boy, I'm getting some stick for trying to politely highlight the difficulties of trying to register on the forum as an outsider, with no knowledge of how the forum runs :'( So I'll politely say it again, in case what I was saying was taken the wrong way: If it said on the "Welcome to FC" email when ...

Re: Registration difficulties.

Hi, No need to apologise, Ben sorted it all out for me and explained about admins being busy, away, etc. The point I was politely trying to make was that I just thought I may have been forgotten about, and I could not find a way by looking at the forum as an outsider to contact someone to find out. ...

Registration difficulties.

Hi, I registered to join the forum on the 5th March and got an email saying that my account is currently inactive and needs to be approved. I thought registration may have taken a day or two, but I had still not received a notification by today (10th March). While I was waiting for registration, I t...

Re: Low Level section

Hi, I've just come across to FC from Fox2, and would like to say a big thanks thanks for adding a trial "low Level" section to the photography section so quickly. My main mil interest is in Low Level photography, and having had FC recommended to me from a few Fox2'ers, I popped across to check it ou...
