Re: Military Aircraft Markings 2024
Thanks once again for the kind words. It's a mammoth task, especially whilst holding down a full -time job with a 3+ hour round trip commute each day, and, just to add extra spice to proceedings this time round, moving house for the first time in 13 years too next week! It's also hugely rewarding wh...

Re: RAF BINBROOK hangar tour 9th July 1987
Absolutely awesome! Much better weather than in August of that year! 😭 I never managed to get into the hangars during the airshow so seeing these shots is superb! Thanks for sharing. I never realised the F-100 was based there temporarily Yes, the "Last, last Lightning Show" was a tad wet! ...

Re: Lakenheath - nuclear store
There are a number of HAS at Lakenheath that were modified years ago with "vaults" to store B61s, up to 4 per vault. I'll dig a link out when I get home. All the shelters at Marham had the vaults installed as well, subsequently filled in I believe after the Special Weapons were retired. Maybe with ...

Re: Lakenheath - nuclear store
Lakenheath has to be the base to site the nukes. They need to be where the aircraft are based. Also lets hope the cnd lot dont take over the viewing area! Knowing are Police they will be making them tea,and checking there not cold ! There are a number of HAS at Lakenheath that were modified years a...

Re: Italian & German Tornado OSD
Gareth, I haven't seen anything official, but I guess the date for the IDS models will be driven by the integration of the B61 to the F-35s, particularly the German examples which they haven't even started receiving yet! (I assume the Italians had B61 capability for their Tornados?) So far the Nethe...

USAF EA-37B Updates
Hi all, As many will already be aware, the USAF recently announced that they have changed the designation for their new "Compass Call" aircraft, based on the Gulfstream G550. What was previously known as the EC-37B has now been redesignated as the EA-37B to better reflect it's role of Electronic Att...

Re: BA279 Musee Canopee Chateaudun 21st Oct 2023
If the French Air and Space Force don't use Chateaudun any more, do they have another facility they use to store aircraft? No. Chateaudun was part storage facility (a mix of indoors and outdoors), part breakers yard (outside), and part aircraft graveyard (also outside). They cleared the scrapping a...

Re: Gando Ocean Sky 23
T.12B-58 (though not read off last week hence the brackets) is behind the operational ramps parked with the F.1CE close to the sea side of the base . Both can be seen easily from the viewing terrace at the airport. Dave Many thanks for this Dave. I'm not there until March next year so I hope that t...

Re: Gando Ocean Sky 23
What's it like there - can you combine spotting with a 'normal' beach holiday or are you some distance from the resorts - I appreciate it is only a small island? I have been to Lanzarote and Tenerife but not Gran Canaria Mike, I've done it a few times. Stayed at Bahia Feliz, which is a small resort...

Italian, French & Spanish tankers for EART operating out of Lanzarote. Got buzzed by Spanish A400 T.23-13 at low-level in the NW corner of Fuerteventura around 1230, and then a more sedate let-down into Lanzarote for the French Phenix a little later! From ADSB, Italian KC-767 now here & flew pm tod...

Re: Gando Ocean Sky 23
Aside from the exercise traffic, it looks like the Guardia Civil Be350 DT.05.01(10224)/09-601 arrived at Gando recently. Didn't appear to ping on trackers. Parked to the far left of the most Northerly mil ramp, next to a C212 and close to a CN235MPA which ADSB thinks was D4.06

Re: Gando Ocean Sky 23
Scramble has Italian EF2000s too and there was a KC-767 at Gando today according to ADS-B Interestingly, the Italian tanker came from Trapani (37 Stormo's base), but at FL370, so it wasn't dragging anything. After a couple of hours at Arrecife (not Gando) it continued West to Andrews AFB. It's quit...

Re: Gando Ocean Sky 23
I was at Gando yesterday caught the Greek C27 landing at 1545 Git speaking with a local who works on the Base who informed me that Friday 13th should see 2 x KC135 and 3 x F16 of Turkish AF between 1400-1430! Also Spanish AF stuff from mainland which can be seen on FR24 TURAF08, KC-135R 62-3567, is...

Agreed, I also got jostled at Orleans a few years ago, although it was Chateaudun show weekend and I suspect they had had a lot of visitors to the fence! That said, I've been jostled at lots of airfields in lots of countries over the years, despite always following the rules, so maybe it's just me! ...

Re: Top Guns Inside The RAF
I suppose it makes good television for the majority, but to show two 'front-line' situations where missions were affected by aircraft unserviceability does not show the RAF's equipment well in my opinion. Maybe it is a fact of life with such high-tech aircraft, but do other nations suffer the same ...
