Re: A10 65 Field access

Maidscross is difficult and needs some effort. We went a while back and were able to ID some aircraft (I'm thinking possibly "JZ" F15s?) with a bit of persistnce and a decent pole on a tripod! You just need to be patient and take your time, obviously keeping to the high ground as much as you can. Th...

Re: A10 65 Field access

Tricky to enforce a parking ban where there are no signs (yet) suggesting it's a private area, although commonsense, airfields and local plod rarely go hand-in-hand. I suspect there will be a gate going up at the field entrance there before very long, so now it's going to be a very long walk from th...

Re: A10 65 Field access

See no reason that parking next to the fence for the farmer's field should be a problem, and then walk back up the main road towards the main gate? Makes sense to keep the cars off the main road and the grass. I remember the days in the 80's and 90's when you could drive along the verge next to the ...

Re: A10 65 Field access

It's definitely the same field, there's only 1 opposite the golf course and it's pretty sizeable, I can testify from numerous treks across it over the years, including a notable one well after midnight on the way home to Cheshire from the continent when we stopped in to pick up some Saudi F-15SA's t...

Sadly Rich I suspect those signs will mostly go unheeded, which will then ruin it for everyone else.

Does anyone know if Hunter T72 ex PP-XHH has been noted outside since its arrival at Scampton ??
It was dismantled (wings and fin separated) when we went around late last year, don't know how quickly they were planning on getting it back into one piece?

Re: USAF B52 Deployment to UPPER HEYFORD 1976

Thanks, got there in the end! I originally had the 13th pencilled in but they weren't confirmed till the early hours of the 14th. I only recently found out why 76475 diverted - HF problems prevented a transatlantic crossing. One of the crew said it took ages to get permission from the UK to allow t...

Re: Nellis AFB - June 2018

Are you 100% sure about "07196"? Reason I ask is that 90-1796 is an Missouri ANG C-130H, although I don't think it has ever carried a tailcode (but it is based at St. Joseph airport, which may be more than a coincidence?)

Re: TAC Blaze 2019 Spadeadam movements

S-453 has been reported numerous times as being present, but I'm 99% certain it never left the mainland, which shows the importance of NOT relying 100% on Mode-S logs which clearly aren't always correct!

Re: Sound of engines echoey

There may well be some sort of tunnel structure under the base, but it's only going to be for cables, ducting, infrastructure type things. There are a number of "vaults" in the floors of some of the HAS's that used to contain the B61s back in the day, but they're long-redundant. I don't think anythi...

Re: Base closed?

Funny, we were talking about this a couple of days ago - As I understand it, block leave, where the whole base takes a month off, no longer happens, but there is reduced activity at this time of year, presumably as some of the staff, crews etc take leave during the school holidays.

Don't the Americans refer to HAS's as TAB-Vee's? Although that's probably their own design (Bitburg/Spangdahlem for example)

Pretty sure if you're on public land (or private land with permission), then it doesn't matfer how close to the fence you are as long as you're the right side of it! MOD Plod like to get excited but as long as you follow the rules you should be fine. Cameras might cause a further issue though. 😬
