Re: Camera recommendations

My first DSLR was a Canon 1100D with the 18-55mm and a Tamron 70-300 (both non IS) lens. Jessops had this combo for £349 - not much more than a fairly good Bridge Camera.

So glad that i took the plunge. A £200 body will work the same as a £2000 one - albeit with less bells and whistles.

Re: Basic Plane Photography tips?

As Chris mentioned above, get to a local airport/field and practice. I'd also add having a bit of knowledge on post processing too. A little increase on shadows will brighten up the belly of the plane etc. and reduction in highlights will bring details out in clouds etc. If shooting in RAW, you can ...

Re: Canon lens question

Thanks Martin, It's not only the money that you need. An understanding other half seems to help haha! Had an impusle trip up the the Hall and Heath last year when the Raptors and Lightnings were over and thoroughly enjoyed the couple of hours there. No Raptor activity at Mildenhall, but a got treate...

Re: Canon lens question

Thanks Martin, Glad you think they're good. I have not uploaded my shots from the Saturday for some reason (job for me tonight). You'll get to see how it fairs in more 'common' RIAT weather lol. I'm off RIAT week by strange coincidence ;) (I usualy spend it watching the validations for Farnbrough as...

Re: Canon lens question

Hi Martin, Apologies for the delay in replying. In a nutshell, I love it!! For around £700, you get a whole lotta lens for a fairly small outlay. Yes, it weighs a bit, but I just rest it when I don't need to hold it and the tripod collar (could be longer) makes it easier to carry the lens and body w...

Re: Canon lens question

I have one and it's great. Doesn't weigh that much, but certainly good for approach/take off shots if you're close by. I use a Sigma 150-600C for Airshows etc.

Re: Park and view west Monday

What kind of attendance are on site on the arrivals and departures? Going on Wednesday and Monday and being a relatively shorty at 5'6" I'd like an idea of what kind of tactic I need to apply in order to get a clear photo

Re: Catching some arrivals

I've took the plunge and bought tickets for Wednesday arrivals, Saturday and Monday departures. Just hoping that the star items arrive and depart on those days. Really looking forward to seeing the static items in the air..

Yes, that's the one. I also bought (should be included IMO) the dock that updates the firmware and allows you to customise it if required.

Re: Better quality 70-300 or go 150-600

I'd say go with the Sigma. I've got the 'C' version and it's fantastic. It weighs a bit, but that helps with the stabilisation. Try and venture onto TV or AV modes. F8 and upwards will set the shutter speed to a workable one if the light is better than gloomy. If you're only getting 1/200 - 1/600 sh...
