Re: Head Spinning - Newbie DSLR Purchase
From personal use I would recommend a Nikon D500 and either a sigma 150-600 lens or a Nikon 200-500. The Nikon lens is slightly slower to focus on fast moving birds in flight but has better image stabilization and the shots just seemed to pop more. You dont say if the cost is for a body and lens or ...

Re: Low level Lake District
Hi. They are taken from various locations some from Honister pass, Dunmail Raise and back towards the dam end of Thirlmere and one I think was over Brothers Water. I dont tend to use Raven Cragg as you are to high and to far back for the turns and if its windy your to exposed. I do use Ullswater but...

Low level Lake District
Ive had quite good luck this year with my outings, as I havnt been as frequently as I would like due to the traffic getting less and less frequent. Ive put together a video of the best ones as in the you tube link that have passed through The Lake District in LFA17. https://youtu.be/kWEif5eKXko?si=K...

Re: Lancaster Bomber through the Lakes
Thanks all for the positive feedback. I was just on Dunmail Raise in the Lake District. Flew through on saturday night at 18:50 for a flypast on Windermere. Thanks, so it flew Thirlmere the 'wrong way' North to South ? Yes it came from Prestwick down loch Doon, across the solway and north to south ...

Re: Monopods
I use a mono pod on my Nikon d500 with Nikon 200-500. I also mount a Sony camcorder on top to video so it gets a little heavy if holding for long periods. I don't use it for jets but for anything rotary I use it and it can help in the wind to stop the jerkyness I attached a quick release to the lens...

Exercise Cobra Warrior Carlisle Airport Exercise
So I spotted a NOTAM for a military exercise at my local airfield Carlisle Airport. So the airfield has an old control tower which isn't used anymore as they built a new one. So firstly the enemy took position in the old tower smashing all the windows out and preparing for attack. Then the wildcat a...

Re: Nikon 200-500mm
I had the sigma 150 to 600 on a Nikon d500 before I bought the Nikon 200-500. I would not go back to the Sigma. I found the Nikon Vr and clarity of the shots better from the Nikon. I will say though I do miss the push pull ease of the sigma lens, although it is still possible to push pull the Nikon ...

Re: Windermere flypast
I dont think it was a 'flypast' I think it was just part of their low level route through it happens quite often. Windermere is the entry route into the lakes most used.

Re: Lake District Low Level
Thank you all for the kind comments. The 2 typhoons chasing the f15 although not great in close up detail is one of my favourites just due to the fact that I probably wont see if again. We thought the tiffs would pull out but they just came round behind it. Truly briliant to watch.

Re: Lake District Low Level
Thanks. I was in the South Lakes area and was curious to know how much I missed them by. I've yet to see a UK F35 down low. I'm surprised you didn't mention the Osprey which came through 16 mins after the Typhoon / F15 combo. Also, I'm not sure which lake you took the Herc from but he took a scenic...

Re: Lake District Low Level
Sorry for the late reply I’ve been busy with work. The times for the f35s were 10:05 and a return flight of the same pair at 12:53. Appreciate all of the positive comments. Thank you all. I do have some video off my phone of the f15 and typhoons passing by, but I’m not sure i can post video on here....

Lake District Low Level
Managed to get out Tuesday and Wednesday this week in the Lake District. Tuesday was possibly one of the best days in years up there in the hills for me. Two passes of two F35bs, one in the morning and the same pair again in the afternoon. Typhoons, f15s, a texan, a high phenom which I havnt include...

Re: Spadeadam - a question
There is no access road to the mock airfield setup and they dont like people going to it either. I know there are photos of people going over but it is highly frowned upon. Also the road which gave access to the range was closed because of the amount of idiots causing mayhem at the gorge waterfall j...

Re: Penrith
I would just go to dunmail raise to be honest. Kirkstone is good when you get passes but most go dunmail raise, just park at the AA box laybye or on the grass either side of the dual carriage way section. East side is easiest to climb either on the ridge above the AA box or hop across the stream and...

Re: Best Guess Anyone?
Id say lakes this week. But Tuesday looks your best bet. There is a notam in place for part of the lakes so don't bother with amble side to Thirlmere. Everyone will be on Ullswater until the Christian Festival in Keswick finishes. There is a typohoon exercise on every day for the rest month nation w...
