Re: What is the favourite MK of Spitfire

ALL beautiful, but i am with those who said the recce version, apart from anything else the guts it took to fly huge distances over enemy territory just relying on altitude and speed to keep them"safe".

Re: If you had to move to another airfield...

My"local"favourites areMarham, the Holbeach ranges(very quiet these days),and quite a trek coningsby(always busy and worth the trip and sometimes catch one or more of the B.O.B flight practicing, but it would be fairford, the chance of seeing exotic stuff like the U2's, B52's and sometimes B2's would b...

Re: RAF Ranges

I went to holbeach last year and was lucky enough to see 2 ospreys, their tail gunners were firing at ground targets, there was one very high pass by a typhoon, you'll need a long lensand if you have one take a scanner the tower uses 2 frequencies ,if you decide to go don't follow the"RAFHolbeach"signs...

Re: ITV series - Fighter Pilot, the real Top Gun

Like Snapshot 1 i was expecting ITV to dumb it down probably with Holly willoughby or Phillip schofield in it somewhere but it is very well made and informative, the BBC usually do this sort of thing better but this is very good.well done ITV.

Re: Where to park and view from?

It depends on wind direction really, but i tend to use chalk lane or there is a small layby on the hill on the A1122 where you catch them as they arrive/leave,there is also white lane which i believe is signposted as the Beachemwell road although there are high hedges so you'll have to find a good sp...

what happens to old/obsolete missiles?

This is a serious question as i realised the other day that the RAF no longer uses the sidewinder or the sparrow/skyflash on their current aircraft so how do the MOD dispose of them? are they sold on or dismantled ?,sorry if this has been covered before but i thought someone on this knowledgeable fo...

Re: Current RAF aircraft

We all know that developing an aircraft solely in one country is too expensive, the days of a truly british military aircraft are long gone however we have developed some fairly decent aircraft with other european countries such as the Jaguar Tornado Typhoon and to a lesser extent the Atlas so surely...

Re: Current RAF aircraft

I'm not quite sure how this thread has got so political, after all we're a group of like minded people with a shared love of military aviation, one thing's for sure though as C24 says our once proud airforce is slowly turning into a tiny force armed with predominantly american types with all the cost ...

Re: Exercise Tri Lightning Eastern Med

At first i was determined not to like the F35 but having seen it at Marham several times i think it is going to be a very capable aircraft which will serve the U.K well, but having said that i agree with Blackcat 1 when you have grown up with an airforce with such a diverse mix of aircraft it is har...

Marham flying next week?

Hi all,i know this is probably a question along the lines of how long is a piece of string but as far as i know 6 F35's left Marham for Akrotiri on tuesday which i think leaves 3 at Marham,so my question is does anyone know the likelyhood of any flying from Marham while the others are away?.i though...

Re: Marham Runway 06/24

I was there on Tuesday and it was good to be back on chalk lane again.the F35s were taking off west to east so were tracking up the runway then launching, the only drawback was that when one came back and did a hover landing it touched down bahind a group of buildings so you don't actually see them t...

Re: B52s at Fairford

I would love to know when and where the U2's are flying but we have to remember we mustn't make it easy for a potential foe, after all any Tom,Dick or vladimir can read these posts and ones like them,i'm not an idiot and i know they have satillites etc but why make it easy for them?.i also think too ...
