The Great Gazelle Sell Off

Back in 2002 retired Gazelle HT2's of the RAF and RN were tendered for sale. There was an event at Redhill to showcase and demo to prospective buyers. A friend from work used to fly from Redhill and knew the demo pilots said he could get me a flight. After several hours the last of the customers had...

Really jealous of your trip. I would retire tomorrow if I could afford to. Really nice shots.

KA27 on a Neustrashimy Class Frigate

It seems unthinkable now but back in 2003 a Russian Navy Frigate moored up in London. It coincided with a state visit by Vladimir Putin. I went to take a few pictures and was astounded to be invited on board for a tour. On the flight deck was a KA27 helicopter. I asked if I could take pictures in th...

Bit late to the Cobra Warrior party

Couple of weeks ago I spent at couple of days at Lakenheath & Mildenhall for Cobra Warrior. Weather was not the best but here are my efforts. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53221502693_d4fe125e55_o.jpg a268A6208 by timothyholden , on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53221699185_77e478...

Re: Top Guns Inside The RAF

Seen worse. Interesting loadout on the Typhoon taxying out during the "Alpha Scramble" from Amari towards the end of the 3rd section of the program (about 45 mins in). What's the pod on the port wing station? Doesn't look anything like the drop tank on the starboard wing. Looks a bit like the ECM p...

Hi Gary.

It's been so quiet. Last night however they were night flying. There seem to be some based at Balado airfield south of Perth, Scotland.

Re: Wattisham Oldies Part 4 - End of Days

I now regret not shooting slides. Slides digitise so much better. I have a high end slide scanner and have experimenting with scanning negatives, but struggle to get accurate colours. Shots taken on a sunny day convert ok but grey day shots have weird colour tones that are difficult to correct. I ha...

Wattisham Oldies Part 4 - End of Days

It was a sad Saturday Morning when the last 2 Phantoms departed Wattisham. They blasted into the air followed by a Hawk chase plane. The hawk reefed into a turn immediately after lift off nearly digging its wing tip in the ground. The 2 Phantoms did a few passes of the field before flying off to Con...

Thanks for the comments. In answer to some of the questions. The show pics were from 89. Phantom Phinale 1 & 2 were only released on VHS. The first one I have managed to copy to DVD. Part 2 has some copy protection that I cant get around. I wish they would release it on youtube but I suspect there m...

Wattisham Oldies Part 1

I started cycling up to Wattisham in the late 70's. Alas I did not have a decent camera at the time. By the time i had a camera it was the late 80's/early 90s. Original photos taken on an Olympus OM10. Flying shots were never great due to the awful Hanimex 200 zoom lends and even worse 2x teleconver...
