Juno’s Depart For Australian Army

For anyone that might have glimpsed the five-ship Juno Formation departing Shawbury this afternoon at approximately 1625 hrs… These were the civilian registered “Volvo and Scania” powered variants and departed in the following order: G-CMIR G-CMIT G-CMIU G-CMIS G-CMIV Routing was B5063 to Shawbury v...

I have individual photos of them taken at Shawbury. Thanks for the update Arthur. Were they all in the same scheme as ZE413 (da...

Re: SAS Augusta at Credenhill, Hereford.

ZE410 and ZE411 were the two ex-Argie ones returned to service by Alan Mann Helicopters at Fairoaks for the AAC, ZE412 and 413 were the new cabs bought when delivered to 7 Regt in 1984/early 1985. All 4 started in standard AMH Yellow/White/Black schemes. I dont exactly recall when they went a bit m...

Actually I just called them and the museum is still closed but hopes to open on Friday for the show weekend. But they said this was not 100% certain to happen.
A friend has visited this morning - and sent back a photo - reporting that it reopens (to the public) this Friday 16th.

Re: Military Aircraft Markings 2023

No offence to Howard - but bring back the ‘blocks’ of types to the overseas section!

I don’t know if it’s just me - but I hate seeing a block of aircraft with the serial ‘1’ followed by another block of mixed types beginning with a ‘2’.

Re: Typhoon jet shoots down drone of Syria

I strongly suspect that this too may have been a RAF shoot down: https://www.nytimes.com/1983/05/20/world/german-learjet-cockpit-empty-is-thought-to-crash-in-the-atlantic.html I remember watching John Cravens Newsround where they were interviewing a Phantom crew from RAF Wildenrath. The crew stated ...

Re: Contrails

As a former RAF Flight Ops Assistant, I remember we used to get the Contrail Levels from the Met Forecaster whilst operating the E-3D's out of Aviano over the Former Yugoslav Republic. Rather embarrassingly I had to tell a particular Captain that he was opting to fly at a level which would expose hi...

Re: Bell 212 Leeming 2012

As a former Flight Operations Manager based at Shawbury, and with regular visitors from Wallop - I can’t say I’ve ever seen one (or a photo) in an all black scheme.
Was it seen in full sun or against the light?
Could it have been “Kermit” (ZJ969) in the all-over John Deere Green paint?

Many thanks for the reply. Frustratingly I got the same result when doing my own digging. It was one of the black scheme ones, but definitely not a DHFS Griffin(B412). Life's like that sometimes!

Re: RAF to scrap E-3 Sentry this year

Not as of yet, that I've heard. As we know 105 is a fuselage and a some stubby wing tips. 104 is in the US. 107 has now lost it's rotardome. 102 appears intact from the outside, might have lost some/all engines or parts of. 101/3/6 may yet fly again, and may end up elsewhere. So there's not many op...

Took a couple of French Exchange Students to see that at the cinema. Their English was about as good as my French (read non-existent). It was easy enough explaining the movie title - but how much explaining did that plot take??

Re: What counts as "Spotting" an aircraft?

I knew one chap who saw an An-225 - but wouldn't count it - as he hadn't read-off the registration! However - what about 'bagged' aircraft in storage or just the wheels noted beneath a hangar door? I think what is really needed is some favourable weather, a nice pub garden and some nice craf...

Oops - yes I did indeed mean the A49.

Wouldn’t be so bad a mistake - if I didn’t actually live in Shawbury!😳

The visits (I was one of your regular hosts) stopped mainly because the station got rid of the 53 seater coach.

Re: Advice about Shawbury movements

Doughnut, I see no one has responded - so here's my tuppence worth! Helis are pulled out of sheds from 0800 onwards - with departures from about 0830. If you're after numbers - the Acton Reynald end of the field s the best option. Turn off the A53 and then after about 400 yards take the track to the...
