Re: Best ever Finningley - Sat 21 Sept '91

I'm not too sure, the 1969 Finningley was very good. 4 x Vulcan Scramble each carrying a Blue Steel Practice round, Lightning 4-ship and solo, Norwegian F-5s, Dutch F-104, Sea Vixen, Belfast and many more! Also first display by Harrier.

Re: RAF Finningley airshow 1969

I attended the 69 Finningley air show with my parents and older Brother, we got caught up in the traffic, worst I'd ever known up til then, my Brother helpfully suggested we head off to Biggin Hill instead (there being seven RAF Battle of Britain displays that day) my father's response....rather dis...

Hi Mick,

I noticed in your book you were unable to get a hold of some of the Finningley programme, I might be able to help you with some scans?

Re: RAF 'pauses job offers for white men' to meet 'impossible' diversity targets

It’s strange but you never see anyone tell the NHS that they must address the dreadful gender imbalance in nursing, where only 11% are male. Maybe people should just realise that despite the best efforts of some to prevent, the sexes do naturally steer towards certain careers, with women more likel...

On a broader point, does anyone know if Leuchars is likely to expect any JW participants in October?

Are The stones trying to recruit though? the raf are so the like to include everyone so people get to see what goes on and then think "i want to do that". Re: Best display of RIAT 2022

A display team isn't just a pilot but also the crew that look after the aircraft. like the typhoon display team for example, there will be a number of groundcrew member with the pilot to make up the team. That's where the term "display team" comes from. Did you really think I thought it was all don...

Re: Best display of RIAT 2022

A display team consists of more than just the pilot and the aircraft, There are also the ground crew and support staff that do the teams stalls at the airshow and promote the team as a whole, It does not matter if it is 1 aircraft or 9 they are all display teams. Nonsense that stuff's all done by m...

Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2022 - General Discussion Thread

Great effort by the organisers to attract quite a few interesting foreign visitors. However, I can imagine they were disappointed by the turn out of the home side this year - fewer than 30 active British military aircraft, plus the Red Arrows. No RAF/RN Lightnings in the static display, which would...

Re: Best display of RIAT 2022

It wasn't a display.. And there isn't a dedicated F-35 display team in the UK. You mean a solo display, tell me how do you distinguish these days between the Red Arrows, a display team, and the Typhoon solo display when it is also called a display team? LF A display team isn't just a pilot but also...

Apparently the last time the silver swallows displayed was in 1998! :Wow:
It’s taken them that long to travel between shows…
1997 actually, with Fouga Magisters, they were at Leuchars that year as well and were up there again in 2005, with PC7s.

Re: Inquiry re - date of last RAF Biggin Hill BoB At Home

I can't recall if the question has been answered yet, but the last RAF organized Battle of Britain "At Home" Day at Biggin Hill, was on Saturday, 4th September 1976. Highlights included; Lightning, Buccaneer, Harrier and Etendard IV solos. There was also an F-111 3-ship fly through, the Red Arrows a...

Re: updates

Given we're only at 12 May as I post, I think that RIAT is shaping up to be well worth it. However, looking at the static in particular, it certainly looks like the Famin not the Feast. The flying certainly could do with some beefing up. But what interests me is the number of aircraft types the RAF ...

Re: F1 to remove military aviation displays from races

What is in a way reassuring is they've listed a farrago of woke reasons for ending military air participation, but its darn annoying, and I certainly hope won't start a precedent, by throwing environmental reasons into it. Its like businesses in the past which have had to re-structure or move, they ...
