M40 roadrunner helicopter
Bit of a long shot but if you don't ask ... This morning (26/08/21) I saw an "Army" (marked in blue) helicopter on a lowloader. It was heading south on the M40, just south of J12 at c11:10. Unfortunately I was heading north at the time. I think it was a Gazelle but wouldn't swear to it (possibly a S...

Re: 100 years London flypast 10 th June.
National Aircraft tour - Horse Guards, London. In addition to those listed above there are 3 replica / FSM exhibits "9960" - Yorkshire Aircraft Museum's BE.2c (assume BAPC.41 - recently "overhauled" according to their website and I guess marking changed from "6232" at that time) "unmarked" F-35 - gu...

Re: CANON powershot SX-430
Hi Blackcat Re: Cybershot DSCH-400. I have had one for about a year. Possibly biggest mistake regarding camera choice I ever made, definitely would avoid now. While reasonable for static shots I have found it pretty awful for moving aircraft. The speed is so slow - over 1sec per frame; make continuo...

Re: Queens fly past
Thanks to all that replied. The slight 'wrinkle' in my fiendish and cunning plan is that Thameslink in their infinite wisdom seem to have decide actually running trains is too much hassle. Apart from every peak hour train disappearing from the timetable this morning they seem to have withdraw the se...

Re: Queens fly past
Can anyone recommend good locations to get photo's of the flypast? Is Waterloo Bridge / Southbank any good? Hoping to avoid crowds around the palace / mall but still get reasonable shots.

RAF Museum, Hendon
A cheeky req. I went past the RAF Museum, Hendon on the train yesterday. There was an aircraft outside behind the buildings (i.e. between the buildings and the railway line). As the train was probably doing close to 80+mph I only glimpsed it for a second but it was a 'fast jet', looked bronze in col...

Re: Chinook Over Wokingham
Can't guarantee this is your Chinook but ZH893 (SHF525) is possibility.
It is reported as landing at Northolt at 08:40 (left again 09:01) and is shown on ADS-B Exchange as leaving Odiham at 08:18.
Bit of a guess but 08:30 over Wokingham doesn't seem out of the question for it.

Perth, WA - Centennial Cavalcade of Flight 2003
Probably the longest of long shots but I was looking through some photos for the above event on the Swan River foreshore 13-Dec-2003. Among them was a flight of 4 Pilatus PC9, I think from Number 2 Flying Training School at RAAF Base Pearce. If anybody knows which aircraft took part in this fly past...

Re: Biggin Hill Festival of Flight 2016
Not to add to the slightly 'out of scope' lack of current military content at the event and hence in this thread. My log from the day can be found at

Maybe a few differences to Nigel's list

Re: Apaches and Chinook over Southam today
Probably one of the 2 pairs of Dutch Apaches and possibly the Dutch Chinook - have a look for the REDSKIN formation posts for the Apaches and GRIZZLY1 for the Chinook.

Northolt to close for 9months
Apologies if it has been posted somewhere on this forum already but a posting on the Northolt-Farnborough Yahoo group quotes the minutes of the South Ruislip Residents Association meeting (srra.org.uk/category/raf-northolt/). This says "The runway is going to be resurfaced next year. New base to the...

Re: A Quick Hello
Thanks everyone for making me feel welcome. Now we are starting to get some good weather and light evenings looking forward to trying to see more real aircraft rather than looking at plots of them on PP ... and of course I'll share anything interesting on FC.

A Quick Hello
Recently joined this forum so I thought I'd introduce myself. I am probably what others have termed an 'old newbie', i.e someone rediscovering his interest in the hobby. Sitting under the southern approach for 27L/R at LHR I don't see much military at home but do see a regular parade of H47, EH10 an...

Re: Chinook over C. London
To answer my own question - in case anyone else is interested. Comparing info in several logs from the Mode_S yahoo group it looks like this was ZH891.

Anyone got a id for the Chinook transiting E-W down the Thames about 13:40 today?
