Re: Indian Jag bird strike

Cheers, Thunder - good to hear a more complete version of events (I suspect a few details had been lost/gained in the telling before it reached me!)

Re: Indian Jag bird strike

Similar to XX143 on departure from Lossie back in 1996, although that a/c didn't make it back on land. That's the Jag story that I've heard told a few times to people stood directly under the approach. The way it was told to me when I was at Lossie one day, the pilot had an engine issue on take-off...

Re: New Code on Typhoon Thurs 2/5

I did wonder if WS-J and WS-R were going to be the aggressors with "distinctive markings" mentioned in the RAF news release for IX(B) standing up...

Re: Log Lossiemouth - Friday 12/4/19

Vulcanone - is that the Fleet General Info thread? If I'm reading that right, is ZA554 due to be moved from Lossie and exchanged for ZA463? I wonder if Media & Comms weren't aware that there was due to be a swap and it's ZA463 that's destined to become the new gate guardian (though I see Integrale1 ...

Re: Log Lossiemouth - Friday 12/4/19

According to Lossie Media & Comms on FB, it's due to become a gate guardian - apparently the elements have taken their toll on ZA475, so it will be replaced by ZA554.

Re: Joint warrior

Ah - true enough. With how quickly it's moving on, I'd not even considered the construction of the P-8 hangars and facilities, or the impact large-scale construction like that would have. As you say, with the P-8 hangar construction, preparing for the runway works (I'm assuming that there will be a ...

Re: Joint warrior

Sounds like a very quiet JW at Lossiemouth this year (even compared to last year, which seemed pretty subdued compared to previous years). I'd wondered whether the planned runway works were a factor, but as far as I know they're still scheduled for around summer 2019 so I wouldn't have thought they ...

Re: Tornado farewell flypast February 2019

Got to Covesea in time for the flypast. They came in over 23 as the special three-ship with a fourth shadowing above and to the right, then banked off toward the 05 end. A couple headed off and round to the east, then the IX(B) special tail came in from the east with a pair of IX(B) marked Typhoons ...

Re: Tornado farewell flypast February 2019

On my way to Lossie, but not sure yet if I'll make it on time or where I'll end up. Hoping to be at Covesea to catch a distance view rather than getting snarled up in what will likely be a busy 23 end!

Lossie FB also confirmed that Tain AWR will be coming in from the north-east, passing Tarbat Ness.

Re: Tornado farewell flypast February 2019

Station Commander updates on FB etc. to say that the flypast at Leuchars will be from east to west, and Lossie will be north-east to south-west along 23. Weather looks good, and with all three specials serviceable it will hopefully be a decent final day for these flypasts.

Re: Falklands Fox Two

Very impressive, and I love the details that really sell it - whether that's the well-chosen (printed?) image in the frame, the nicely-executed puff of missile exhaust or the slightly raised port wing (to simulate the "wobble" from releasing the missile, I assume?)

Great stuff!

Re: Tornado farewell flypast February 2019

Yup, Lossie have confirmed there will be no touch-and-go, no landing or refuelling etc. I think we should expect a single pass, hopefully with decent enough visibility and nice and low, and that will be the lot.

Re: Tornado farewell flypast February 2019

As of this morning, there still doesn't appear to be a NOTAM for the Scottish flypasts, so I'm guessing there won't be one released. I'd seen it suggested before that they may just be treating the Scottish flypasts as typical low-flying, so no need for a specific NOTAM, but I don't know enough about...

Re: Tornado farewell flypast February 2019

No, they should still be flying through until some time in March (I don't recall the exact date, but I'm sure I've seen it mentioned on FC before). There will also be a nine-ship flypast on February 28th from Marham to RAFC Cranwell.

Re: Tornado farewell flypast February 2019

Fingers crossed 134 and 129 will be able to make it north of the border with 084 on Thursday. Given what seemed to be fairly mucky weather for refuelling, I think all involved did well for the first day and it hopefully bodes well for the next two flypasts.

Re: Tornado farewell flypast February 2019

Thanks for the update, reaper493. Interesting that they will be going Leuchars --> Tain --> Lossie, as I'd expected Leuchars --> Lossie --> Tain. Hopefully RAF Lossiemouth will release a little more info on the planned direction, height etc. - I'm guessing coming in from the sea running north-to-sou...

Re: Tornado farewell flypast February 2019

RAF Lossiemouth's FB page posted in the last half hour that they should be releasing approximate timings today. I would imagine that the on-the-day timings the Station Commander is talking about will be final timings once they've taken into account the forecasts for the day rather than the list of a...
