Re: Fairford

If they are from last year's RIAT should they not have been posted under "Airshow & Event Photography"? But yes, nice shots.

Re: Micro Four Thirds opinions sought

Thanks for all your replies and comments guys. I have been using the G9/100-400 combo for around seven months now, and I'm not yet convinced the purchase was a wise one. The camera seems to give pretty good results in good light and when the subject is quite big in the frame. However, it struggles w...

Re: Head Spinning - Newbie DSLR Purchase

You say your budget was for body and lens if possible, which I'd assumed anyway, but if you're planning on taking in airshows you could really do with a two-lens setup, with a standard zoom for static aircraft and telephoto zoom for flying shots. Hence my recommendations in my earlier reply if you g...

Re: Head Spinning - Newbie DSLR Purchase

You'll get far more bang for your buck if you explore the secondhand market. Buy from reputable dealers, who usually offer a six-month warranty, some even do 12 months. I have bought from MPB, Ffordes, Wex and London Camera Exchange with no problems. Of course, other dealers are available! Make sure...

A wonderful selection of transports from the good old days, Arnold. Nice to see the Danish C-47s and C-54s, which were regular visitors to Lossie.

Great selection of former AdlA aircraft. Your Flickr album shows many of the less "glamorous" types which I can remember being front line at Porte Ouverte and Meeting Nationale events I attended. Sadly, I can't see a Mirage iv in the collection though. Thank you. Mirage IV features in the Flickr al...

Re: Top Guns Inside The RAF

Third series to cover the aviation enthusiasts just outside the base? One series is quite enough! I recorded the first episode and found myself hitting the fast-forward button rather a lot. A bit cringeworthy. It obviously appealed to some folk, but not to me, and I know I'm not alone in the Lossie...

Re: Cleaning Mounted Slides

I've never tried it but PEC-12 photographic emulsion cleaner was always the recommended product to go for back in my slide days. Success may be hit and miss depending on amount of mould.

A lovely selection there, Gordon, and as you say, nice to see a good splash of colour. It's good to see older types still have their uses after military life.

Re: Tele-zooms for Nikon

No, this is the 300mm prime. They are available from around £400 upwards, and whilst not as versatile as a zoom give superb results at all apertures. I have no plans to sell mine any time soon. They are prone to AF motor failure though. MPB currently have a few examples of this lens, including one "...

Re: Tele-zooms for Nikon

I use a Nikkor 200-500mm lens with a D500 body mainly for wildlife but occasionally for aircraft. It's a cracker of a lens but a bit of a weighty beast to handle. My go-to set-up for aircraft is a D610 body with (sorry to muddy the waters) a Tamron VC 100-400mm lens. I bought the lens just over five...

Re: Micro Four Thirds opinions sought

Thanks for your comments Theo1 and jimbo, and apologies for this late reply. I did settle on a Lumix G9, with battery grip, and Panasonic Leica 100-400mm lens, bought secondhand from London Camera Exchange. I decided on Panasonic because the zoom ring on their lenses turns in the same direction as m...

Another wonderful selection, Arnold. Every one a winner, but the Mirage IV pics stand out for me. I always thought the aircraft looked better in the original silver scheme.

Re: NIKON LENS CAPABILITY

Hi, as daggerfan says the D5600 doesn't have a built in AF motor so can't autofocus that older D model lens. I'd recommend the AF-P 70-300's either the DX or FX model but avoid the one without VR. These reviews might help with the difference. https://photographylife.com/reviews/nikon-70-300mm-dx-vr...

Re: Digitize Slides

I have copied a lot of my slides using an A4 hobby lightbox (£20 from Amazon), Nikon D7000 DX body with a Nikon AF-D 105mm f2.8 macro lens, and Velbon Sherpa tripod. The whole shooting match rests on an old shelf rescued from kitchen units to ensure a stable base. The camera and lens are attached to...

Re: Micro Four Thirds opinions sought

Thanks for your comments, TREBAX_RAVEN. Yes, I had considered the crop factor. The 800mm equivalent of the long end of the Leica appealed to me, though it's really not much longer than the 750mm equivalent of my 200-500 lens at the long end with my D500. I did reckon the G9's smaller sensor would gi...

Micro Four Thirds opinions sought

Hello All. I am using a Nikon D500 (with battery grip) and 200-500mm Nikon lens primarily for birds/wildlife but occasionally for aircraft (though I prefer my D610 and Tamron 100-400 for the latter). However, the D500 combo is a fair weight to lug around, and even seems heavier than usual on hot, su...
