Re: '70s Carrier shots - Probably from Ark Royal

Thanks for the info Keith. I also recall taking my family to a Plymouth Navy Day once on our return journey from a holiday in Newquay. Sadly no carriers alongside on that occasion. Good bit of research on your part identifying the identity of the A-7

Re: '70s Carrier shots - Probably from Ark Royal

Hi Sparts99. The Omega symbol was the marking carried by the jets of 892 NAS. There is nothing on the pics to give any clue as to when/where taken but defo a RN carrier as on a couple of the poorer quality pics which I have'nt bothered to scan there is a RN Wessex plane guard in view which would con...

'70s Carrier shots - Probably from Ark Royal

I found a few very small photos hidden in the dust jacket of a pre loved reference book on Military Aircraft which were taken on the flight deck of a Navy carrier (probably the Ark and almost certainly in the '70s). I'm guessing they were taken on one of those small pocket cameras that were around a...

That A-10 651 appears to be in a commemorative scheme. Do you know anything about it?

Superb set Steve. The Navy one looks particularly good in the dark. That star which appears on a couple of them really enhances them. Is it Venus?

Superb set. Those distant Cottesmore Family Days always produced a good static display.

Re: TTTE

Nice to see some Cottesmore birds again. Were nt we lucky to have TTTE based over here! Their annual air show was one of the best around. Sadly I only got to one as they usually clashed with Coningsby which was one of our regulars.

Re: Canberra Anniversary Photo Call - May '89 Wyton

Thanks Keith and Tony for your valued additions to the thread. Any others will be gratefully rec'd. BTW Keith how did you manage to get that shot of a deserted 100 Sqn. line? When I tried it was busier than Piccadilly Circus.

Canberra Anniversary Photo Call - May '89 Wyton

While sorting through my slide collection I came across a few of the above event which had been ignored for many years due to their poor quality. Those who attended will doubtless recall the extreme weather conditions which were experienced in the form of an apocalyptic downpour at the opening of th...

Re: F3 Finale Leeming 24/28 March 2011

Yes. Those were the days as Freddie Mercury once sang. Nice to hear some appreciation of a much maligned jet. According to Chris, who owns Jetart Aviation and was previously XI Sqn. groundcrew on one exercise in Alaska they were registering kills at an unbelievable rate thanks to ASRAAM and JTIDS. B...

F3 Finale Leeming 24/28 March 2011

The final flight of the Tornado F3 in RAF service took place with the delivery of the last three aircraft on the strength of the disbanded 111 Squadron into retirement at RAF Leeming on 28 March 2011. The three comprised ZE734/JU (the Squadron flagship), ZE 791 (which had received a special paint sc...

Sadly this was one of the few deployments at that period I never got a 'heads up' on and this is the first I've heard of it, so thanks for posting. I think probably the only visit from the Portuguese.

Linton Families Day '06

Came across a disc with pics of the '06 Linton Families Day which maybe of interest. While it was nt the best what would we give for such an event today? The 33 Sqn Ann. Puma was a bonus as was the arrival of a NAW Harrier. Sad to think that the days of this type were numbered thanks to the incoming...

This would have been a good show, sadly spoiled by the weather on the Sunday when I attended. Rain set in during the afternoon and put the dampers on it.

Great set from a great show Paul. Do you have a pic of the Norwegian F-16 which can be seen in that NATO 50th Ann line -up?
