Another great hark back to Air Fetes. Love the Draken!

The Austrians were at Mildenhall show in 1978 with their Saab 105 team Karo AS
Thanks. That's before I set out on the annual AF pilgrimage. I did wonder whether they'd got there as they were one of the IAT regulars back then.

Air Fete 2000 - definitely the wettest

As the thread on my previous post has moved onto the following Air Fete in 2000 (none in '99 due to NATO operations against Serbia over Kosovo) I've decided to post coverage of that one which, as someone remarked, was a great show except for the weather. Agreed. Basically it was like April showers o...

Re: Air Fete '98 - Probably the least memorable

The only disappointment in 2000 was the Weather. I agree. Great show which could nt be enjoyed because of the weather. Missed about half the flying display through constantly having to shelter from the showers, which were seriously full on downpours. At least the best bits (Draken + B2) were able t...

Hi Mick :P Was that the one where the temp was high 40's F (if that) and some of the parking on grass became a quagmire :S Seem to have spent an awful lot of time in the hangars in that one :grr: I'd stopped togging by then  Thanks for posting  Paddyboy  That sounds like the 2000...

Air Fete '98 - Probably the least memorable

A question for all Air Fete devotees; do you remember the 1998 event? If the answer is in the negative or requires you to think really hard then you've just proved my contention. There are two reasons for this. Firstly because it followed the 1997 event which maybe likened to the proverbial Lord May...

Air Fete '97 - Departure Day

Only once managed to get to see the Air Fete departures; in '97 when we were on holiday in Lincolnshire. After attending the show on the Sat I managed to persuade Mrs.F3 that returning on the Bank Holiday Monday was a must esp given that Lincolnshire was closed except for Skegness so given the choic...

Looks like you needed a wet suit. Which day were these taken on? We went on the Sat. and altho' it was dull all day I don't recall it being as bad as this. Fabulous set esp #7 showing that dirty KC135.

Just like to add a subject which I consider 'essential' to the '76 list; the 20 TFW F-111 in the bi-centennial colour scheme the most distinct element of which was the white fin.

More Memorable Air Fete Displays

Continuing the quest for the most memorable Air Fete displays (discounting flypasts and role demos) here is a batch of contenders from the archives. Do you think any of them deserve to make a Top 10 with the likes of the '86 SR-71 'fireball' display or that hairy B-52 take-off in '90. Speaking of wh...

Milldenhall Air Fete - Top 10 Jaw dropping displays

Impressed by some of the well informed comments on the pics of that 1990 B-52 take - off I posted was wondering about compiling a Top 10 of the most memorable flying displays witnessed there. My top three are fairly obvious:- 1 That Blackbird display in '86 a pic of which was made into a poster. 2 T...

Alconbury Air Tattoo '86

The Alconbury Air Tattoos were great shows. Not in the same league as Air Fete of course but undoubtedly the next best USAF Open Day (and the only other one that took place every year). This was the 3rd one I attended and had a pleasing variety of NATO visitors altho' the highlight of the display wa...

Re: That B-52 take - off Air Fete '90

The show report I have does nt identify the pilot but I can confirm that the a/c was B-52G 59-2585 ' Swashbuckler'. It was certainly the most memorable t/o I witnessed during the 19 yrs I attended Air Fete - and that includes the B-1 and B-2 Spirit in 2000.

That B-52 take - off Air Fete '90

One of the most memorable Air Fete moments (after the famous Blackbird reheat incident) is that B-52 take -off which provided what was probably the most dramatic show finale in 1990. Now I normally would nt have been around to witness it as we always hit the road early to avoid the end of show traff...

RAF Leeming was a good RAF Base, only problem for me was whenever I visited it rained!
I can relate to that. Probably just a bit too close to the Pennines for comfort - but at least you can see it coming!
