Tornado GR1s + F3s in 75th Anniversary schemes 1990/91

Paddyboy's latest post included a couple of Tonkas in 75th Ann. schemes. 1990 and 91 saw a number of such schemes which included some of the most photogenic ever produced so I've raided the archives for this selection. The 17 Sqn. one is from a Squadron Prints postcard as this is one which eluded me...

Re: Alconbury in the 80s

Terrific selection, but particularly #8. It was never boring driving past on the A1. Early one Sat a.m. en route to the Hall we saw a pair of German based F-4s giving the place a real wake-up beat-up.

Re: A few more airshow stalwarts

Tonkas in Anniversary schemes definitely worth a peek. That 45 Sqn. two - tone blue job of '91 shown in #10 was my favourite.

Re: SR-71A display

Video'd it. Col. Rich Graham explained the technicalities of this event in one of his excellent books about flying the S.R. 71, or, as it was supposed to be called 'the R.S. 71 until President Nixon got the letters the wrong way round!. Amazing how such a large nation always seems to elect its bigg...

Binbrook Open Day '82 - Lightnings in flying display

By way of an addendum to xkekeith's excellent post here are some pics of the nine ship and subsequent recovery. This was an interesting time as about half the a/c were in the new Barley grey scheme whilst the rest were still in the tactical scheme, in which some remained until retirement 6 yrs. late...

Re: RAF Binbrook Show 1982 - Lightnings ! (large post)

Worth waiting for esp the Lightning flightline pics. Unfortunately you got the wrong side of Vulcan 607. The port side had the original Falklands missions tally and this was a good opportunity to record it. As I recall it was a very hot day and that lovely blue sky had turned milky by the afternoon ...

Excellent. That is one show I wish I'd got to. All those Hunters in the civil register back then compared to none now. We will never see their like again, sad to say.

V. nice too. This is the one the year before I started going so interesting to see what I missed. Also looking forward to comparing yr Binbrook pics with mine. Remember that Dak well as some of the early episodes were filmed @ Ch. Fenton.

Great post - thanks.

Was the B-52 1992/3? If so I was walking on the moors near Pateley Bridge and saw it as it made its way down from Leuchars. My first one.

Regards,
Ferrari
Yes '93. The penultimate (and one of the best) and the only one which ever featured a Buff.

Stars + Bars over Yorkshire

Compiling a collection of the a/c photographed in Yorkshire skies down the decades I unearthed this selection of US machines, most of which are no longer around that I'm sure some of you will appreciate. Altho the 'Lifters were usually just specks leaving vapour trails several miles above at Ch. Fen...

WWII B&W Selection Box - 2nd Serving

Seeing as it's Xmas here's a second serving from the tin of USAAC recognition slides I found in my late father's garage. Two rarities are the pre-war Martin B-10 bombers (predecessor to the B-17 in USAAC service) and the Brewster Buccaneer, which I had nt even heard of before coming across this slid...

Going splendidly thanks Patrick. Those half dozen Sea Fury pics are some of the best I've seen esp. the 1st three.
