Re: The death of Fighter Control

Any and all efforts are massively appreciated by myself for the running of this forum, which for the occasional fault and scuffle is an exceptional informational resource to all spectrums across the hobby.

I have modded and been admin on a few other forums and would be happy to assist if required.

Have you tried playback on Planefinder or FR24?
Yes. As Mike mentioned above, nothing displays on either platform.

Many thanks, Amp.

Vampire over Milton Keynes

Just had the great sight of a Vampire heading ~SW over Milton Keynes. 13:45.

Anyone have any idea of the serial or where it was going?

Many thanks in advance.

Re: Sunday Times - F-35 order to be cut by 90

First Sea Lord has confirmed the intent to buy F-35B numbers in the 60-80 range by 2032, but no official commitment. I’d imagine a follow on order for a new batch would occur in the 2026 timeframe, if at all. ~70 odd units is the minimum number required to make the F-35B a credible force as I stated...

Re: USMC F-35B Deployment - Round 2

That would certainly make sense to me, as I had heard that HMS QE was due to depart on CSG21 around June, so participation in the previous weeks for Joint Warrior ties in nicely. Whether the USMC will be part of JW, I'm unsure.

Thanks for your answers all.

USMC F-35B Deployment - Round 2

As HMS Queen Elizabeth is due to leave on CSG21 ‘in the Spring’, I assume that the USMC will arrive a week or two prior to the ship’s departure.

Is anyone aware of when the USMC are due to arrive back?

Many thanks in advance.

Re: UK to increase number of nuclear weapons in SDR 2021

Not a fan of nuclear weapons (unsurprisingly), so I am curious to hear the government's rationale behind this one if it is indeed correct in the report. The fleets and shipyards snippet is ominous. Plenty of mentions regarding new vessels, absolutely no mentions of the current fleet. I would expect ...

Re: E7 Wedgetail order reduction

Makes sense.

First aircraft due to enter service around 2023.

There's no reason the UK can't re-evaluate this position come ~2025 in the next review and decide to purchase more if required.

Re: Sunday Times - F-35 order to be cut by 90

I haven't implied that the spending deficit is Brexit related at all, only that in a post-Brexit hit economy, it will be even harder to manage the existing commitments in our defence plans. The current overspends were always down to the mismanagement of funds by the MoD itself, and the exorbitant co...

Re: Sunday Times - F-35 order to be cut by 90

The amount of misinformation in this thread alone is astonishing. To clarify; 1. The IR was instigated prior to Covid-19 and was intended to reflect Britain's position/ambition in a post-Brexit world. It also addresses the massive cost deficit that the MoD has run up. The resultant findings have not...

Re: Sunday Times- F-35 order to be cut by 90

138 was overkill in my opinion considering the purchases were due to be over decades, by which point drone technology will have matured significantly to fill in the gaps where manned missions are not required. Somewhere in the region of 72-96 would have been about the right number to be able to sust...

Re: Construction work

Hello all Quick question hopefully. In the 'new' (refurbed) section to the south of the airbase, there are currently 32 or so spaces for aircraft parking (not including hangar space). Whilst this will obviously be enough for a few years, if the RAF/FAA do eventually get more than the 48 aircraft sla...

Re: Army, Navy, RAF severe cuts

Of course there will be withdrawals of the Type 23 over the next ten years, the Type 26 and 31 are destined to replace all 13 current Type 23's, with the new Type 32 being an addition. And only 3 Type 26's have been ordered, and there were rumours of both types suffering a cut, so this WAS new news...

Re: Army, Navy, RAF severe cuts

Thanks, page_verify. That answered most of what I would have responded to Enobob with. The hope is that the Type 32 frigate will eventually bring escort numbers up to 24, but this is at least 10 years away, by which time there will have been withdrawals of quite a few Type 23s already as well as mul...

Re: Army, Navy, RAF severe cuts

No idea what some of you think you have just read.

None of this new money is being invested in our conventional forces. Nor is it plugging the still rather large black hole in the defence budget.

The RAF, Navy and Army still face severe cuts.
