Re: Cosford Air Show 2024
I still do want to do Cosford again, but nothing jumps out at me so far. Seems like a copy/paste of last years so far. I have looked at hotels and I could do it if something big is announced. But they do need to up their game. Its the worst Air Arm airshow in Europe -and always is! Comically awful....

It was actually Gen John 'shan' Hackett. He was a Brigadier at Arnhem - hence people getting confused with Frost and even Horrocks (who was trying to get there!) https://www.goodreads.com/en/book/show/1375759 There are 2 books - third world war and third world war August 1985 - which is much more ab...

Re: UK Low flying 1970s, 1980s
I'm restarting this thread in the hope of finding out some more information about my childhood memories. I lived just west of Stone in Staffordshire and as mentioned previously in this post I remember seeing lots of military low flying on a daily basis in the 70s and 80s and especially when there w...

Re: Masters of the Air - USAF Mighty 8th in East Anglia
Well, I have watched the first two episodes, and found them thoroughly entertaining !! But , then again, I am just an aviation enthusiast / photographer , and not an `Armchair expert` , like some people ,and don`t feel the need to criticise everything that doesn`t meet some exacting standards. I thi...

Part answer There have been two major accidents to low-flying aircraft involved in Mallet Blow exercises: a German air force Tornado aircraft crashed during Mallet Blow 86/4, and two RAF Harrier aircraft collided in mid-air during Mallet Blow 87/3. Re: Mallet Blow exercises ??
I have a vague memory of a large formation of C130 notamed to go through the lakes. I cant remember who i was with but we went up to the Appleby valley as we thought that was the most likely route only to see them from a distance as they came out of the M6 pass going north. Could have kicked myself...

Re: Mallet Blow exercises ??
Sorry to jump on this but it may be connected with these exercises. Does anyone remember C-130's about a dozen of them at a time, going through the Lichfield Corridor ? Similar date, quite a regular occurance. Also had the sight of A10's very low level along the dove valley. Neal I have a vague mem...

One of the main drivers was the A400 struggles to be a tanker for Helicopters - it's why half the German/French fleet with be tankers.

Re: Mildenhall KC-135s to go low level regularly!
I can recall a time when the KC-135's were powered by J57's, so underpowered that they earned an (unofficial) crew nickname 'GLOB' (Ground lovin' ol' b*st*rd)! One particular memory that stands out to me, was during Air Fete 86 at Mildenhall. Just prior to the air display commencing, a fully laden ...

Re: Mallet Blow exercises ??
I saw the German Alphas a few times on the ranges during Elder Forrest/Joust/ Priory era. Usually as a 16 ship. They always came on and made one or two quick passes of strafe and gone - I always thought they looked great slinging the gun They paid a visit during Central Enterprise, think it was 1988...

Re: Mallet Blow exercises ??
Mallet Blow 92/1 - Otterburn: Friday 3rd April 1992 A very low key Friday afternoon session - though probably to be expected that close to EndEx. I notice that British Aviation Review said the following about the exercise in the April 1992 edition: "Exercise Mallet Blow' was severely hampered by po...

Sorry to go off topic but the rarest sighting for me in my locality were 4x Viggens escorted by 4 Jaguars, I think from 54 Squadron low level through the Usk valley between Brecon & Sennybridge whilst having a drink with my family outside the White House Hotel in Sennybridge ( cracking beer garden ...
