Re: Nikon 200-500 and D810 - a good combination?
I guess the D810 is like my D800 and if you wish it can do automatic DX cropping at 1.3x or 1.5x, with the advantage of reducing the storage requirement.

Re: Mirrorless or not?
Hello slogen51 - yes those file sizes I quoted (D800) are for RAW. After cropping to suit it really is only a couple of clicks on nikons capture program to get them sorted.

Re: Mirrorless or not?
If you or indeed anyone can afford it - then get a full frame - which it sounds like you are in agreement. Your concern about the size of files is however a valid one. But and this is a big but - I have a D800 full frame by the way - you can easily and rapidly switch it to 1.2x or 1.5x. So I not onl...

No such thing as "European investment".... the EU gives us nothing, because every penny they distribute originated in Westminster.

Re: Budget DSLR For Novice?
From what you have said, I think you would be far better choosing a good bridge camera. I have a number of DSLRs, both full frame and digital, but I really only use them for those dedicated trips to airfields. The rest of the time, like out walking, visiting places, holidays etc, I reach for a bridg...

Re: Parking at LN
Those of us who are approaching fossildom, well remember the days when the number of enthusiasts at an airfiled, could be counted on one hand and even for major events I dont recall any parking problems. Perhaps our numbers have drastically increased, but certainly more of us are retired or able to ...

Re: 1.4 teleconverter on a Nikon 300 f4 prime
For sharpness it depends on the quality of your converter. I would not waste your money on cheap telecons, as they are usually poor. If you can afford it then stick to Nikon, (but very expensive new, but not so bad 2ndhand), or as an alternative try Kenko Pro. I use a 2x kenko pro with a nikon 300 f...

Re: Runway rebuild
Everything in London costs more.... it helps to make our country uncompetetive! You get more bang for your buck in the regions, which begs the question why does our rotten Govt continue to plough many times more per head into our prosperous capital and ignore the neglected regions of England and Wal...

Re: Nikon TC-17EII x1.7 teleconverter
Nikon teleconverters are meant for their af-s f2.8 lenses. If you are after more reach then you should also consider getting another lens. Their 80-400 can be had reasonably priced on ebay, or if you want a quality prime then the AF 300 f4 d lens is good value.

The door pins are in and locked, its just the handle on the exterior thats not in its correct position.... no real problem, though in the civvy world this is usually noticed and pointed out to the crew.

Re: Scampton Air Show
We have very few airshows these days, so I have to say its good to have another one in the calendar.... and happy they decided on a different month to July, as we all know that month can get rather busy, with little else afterwards. Personally, I like a mix of some modern and some warbirds. Also man...
