Re: LOYAL LEDA 20

Ex was originally going to be held in Germany and Poland, but has moved to UK and will take place at South Cerney Duke of Glos Barracks and Fairford Site 16. Staying locally last week and kept an eye out for activity. Most days a couple of Hawks, Avengers and Merlins flew but certainly not the busiest of weeks. Re: Question

A KC-10 can carry around 160 tonnes of fuel, roughly double that of a KC-135. One KC-10 can support 6 fighters on each of the 2 legs to get from the sandpit to Stateside. Would require 2 KC-135 (and 2 crews) to do the same job

Re: NATO flypast December 2019

It was Sept 2014, NATO summit at Newport, Wales. Yes, acft operated from/recovered to Brize. Most if not all flypasts over London form up to the north and east of London and then fly east to west along the Thames, so if there is a NATO summit flypast, chances of Brize Norton being used are small. On...

Re: NOTAM 4/5 Sept

I know this is a long shot but does anyone know how much fuel a Buff burns when holding for 90 minutes? Fuel capacity 181,000 litres. Ferry range 16,000 Kms. Cruise speed 840km/h. Assume 20,000l left in tank on landing. So average fuel burn 10 litres/km. Over 90 minutes would use up something like ...

Re: RIAT and the future

Andy Armstrong, RIAT CEO (leaving post this year) was interviewed Friday morning on the Air Tattoo radio station and was quite clear that he saw no reason why the AT could not continue at FFD after the base is permanently re-activated and indeed that he expected that it will continue. The only days ...
