Re: LGSA Souda Bay 7-Jun-24

FWIW the "441" P8 was still there on 1st July afternoon. It was 441 on the tail. Crappy shot as going past at a fair few knots in 35c heat haze, dirty plane window and mobile phone.

Justin Bronk (of RUSI etc) being interviewed at length on the air war and air power from both sides since day 1. Its very informative.

Re: The Ukraine Situation

Not a lot. This stuff happens and was likely expected. With enough firing, some will eventually go rogue. I cant find the article now but i do recall a NATO (US?) anti radiation missile over Kosovo hitting the wrong country as it missed by 10s of miles for example. What will likely happen is the amb...

Re: How To Avoid Radar In One Simple Lesson

out of interest... If you had an airborne platform (AWACS / JSTARS) wouldn't you be able to differentiate the helicopter from traffic due to it's speed? everything else going at 50mph, but a single our double target going at 100mph I think the returns of the rotor blades will give away the presence...

Re: Russian Su-27 "releases" a missile in the vicinity of RAF RC-135

The only thing i disagree with is "the patrol completed". A playback of that flight seems to show the RJ cuts short its eastbound leg significantly (having completed several previous) and RTBs. Its reassuring that no matter what is going on there do seem to be grown ups in the command chain on both ...

Russian Su-27 "releases" a missile in the vicinity of RAF RC-135

Defence Secretary Ben Wallace tells MPs that on September 29 an RAF RC-135 Rivet Joint spy plane was being shadowed by two Russian Su-27s in international airspace when one of the Su-27s "released a missle in the vicinity of the Rivet Joint" Wallace in parliament now. - Russia investigation said "t...

Fwiw the C130 doing tactical landings came out of Northolt but returned to Brize.
Guess it got moved there for the closure.

Re: Brize Emergency Runway Closure

Fair enough, he vanished off my tracker and too low for VHF from SE Wales.

Trying to establish if the runway is open. If it's not I can save myself a 90 mins drive and 4km walk for the beach landings later today.

I see on tracking sites an Atlas is up & about from Brize (Doh Fairford my bad)
Orbiting I guess awaiting the results of a Brize inspection.

I went to know because beach landings are scheduled this afternoon but only if Brize is back open.

Re: UK Should Reconsider C-130J Retirement

"Getting away with it" is great until the one time you don't. We can get away with having no armed forces most of the time. The other problem with capability gaps is when they eventually try to fill then the criteria get changed and what is most never actually gets truly replaced. It gets watered do...

Re: UK Should Reconsider C-130J Retirement

C130s can land on things A400s can't. Atlas is useful but isn't a full C130 replacement. There are capability gaps, some of which can't be fixed. Then again we're a mess. AESA much needed Typhoon upgrade maybe 2028 at best. Meteor on F35. Navy lacking useful ASMs. We have a mix of aircraft, none of ...

He won't mention Russia by name, certainly won't condemn and issues statements that assume both parties are guilty and need to stop.
Standard response from him and others. (Same tactic India uses in the UNSC)

Re: The Ukraine Situation

Far more sinister today was an Op-Ed in a state controlled media outlet (Ria Novosti): https://twitter.com/francska1/status/1510898134481788930 Effectively calls for the entire elimination of the people, ethnic group, culture and country. Its exceedingly similar to Nazi Germany in wording. "However,...
