Re: Sigma 50-500mm swap

I had a similar experience with a Sigma lens of that type. I found it was to heavy, mine didn't have IS, which was a real drawback, and didn't really deliver especially when using lower f stops. I bought a canon 100-400 a couple of years ago, new, and wished I'd done it earlier. Got a nice 18-115 as...

Re: exercise chameleon

I'm never going to ID my Apache pics taken from my house, but the two Chinooks I may be able to. If anyone was at Leuchars for their arrival and got them, one of them had a mini gun sticking out the port, (left) window behind the cockpit, the other had the bubble window. Any Id for which is which?

Re: exercise chameleon

I had 2 Chinooks over the house at around 5.30 PM, on much the same route as the earlier Apaches, but a bit higher. At the time I saw the 3 Apaches, my sister said she saw 5 helicopters, with a lot of turning and weaving going on. Does anyone know if there was anything else going North at the same t...

Re: B2 Bomber Crew?

Are B1 missions not 2 man crews now? Thought I read somewhere the two backseaters were done away with, and their tasks automated.

Re: exercise chameleon

Don't know if you'll see them over your way Alan. Have you seen/expecting any other rotary participants over your way?

Thanks for the reggies. Had them over the house at 14.30 ish in the Scottish Borders. Not that I'll be able to ID them from the pics, at that height.

Re: Prestwick 31/8/19

That's rounded off a good week for you, and all the regulars, at Prestwick Dougie. I did contemplate coming over, but the weather forecast put me off, but at least Saturday didn't look to bad. Just hope they come back through, and I can get over.

Re: Tues 27th Aug

Yeh, I've seen the forecast, I'd have to travel through it all in D&G to get to Prestwick. Looks like I'll have to forget about it now, unless the forecast improves radically. Anyone got info on their return dates?

Re: Tues 27th Aug

So reading the posts re the Hornets, am I right in thinking there are six coming altogether, and that they are all leaving on Friday? I can feel a road trip coming on. :)

Didn't see the shaded out reggies, but they did blur out the names on the cockpit sills.

Re: what happens to old/obsolete missiles?

Of course, what they should do is ping them off. If they aren't needed, why not give the crews a chance of a live firing or two. I doubt there is much live firing these days.

Sorry toom317 - Incorrect there only 5 carried the markings - ZM152 was as per Normal
this comment is not meant to detract from a very good showing of the markings of the Vermont Aircraft
Ooops, thought all the latest arrivals had them.

Re: Vermont Lightning

At least you get some markings on your jets over there, not like the drab grey we get here, unless you count the lightning "branding" on the 6 recently jets delivered to Marham.
