Re: JW Arrivals @ Prestwick + Chinooks @ Lossie

A nice bit of Chinny action there Niall. I hope they were trying to roll those hay bales. :)

Prestwick 15th Oct

A pretty miserable day for flying activity today. Looked like it would be a decent day with lots of activity around the aircraft, but a lot of it came to nothing. Both the C17's looked like they were going to depart, but didn't. I missed the Aurora landing by 15 mins, but at least the 2 aircraft in ...

First shot is a cracker. It'd be even better with the lighting towers removed.

How many blanks have been saved by a Tuc' in the hills ?
For me, loads. As much as I like the jets going at warp 7, in the LL areas, I always liked seeing a Tucano. Much better than a Hawk T1 any day. :D

Re: F-35 drag chute test - in the air

I suspect all brake/drag chutes can be deployed in the air. There's the story of the Victor that did it, to escape from a spin.

Saw a report on Reporting Scotland, last night, that it had now left the Forth.

Supra, if I was to put that into the camera club, the horizon would be the first thing that was picked up.

HMS Chuck

Crossing the Forth yesterday, and the PoW was in the river. Unfortunately there's no pedestrian path on the new bridge, so had to settle for shooting into the light on the North side of the river.

Thanks for the help. I'll start the rumour now, there will be no flying on Monday. That should get me a good spot in the WAVE. :D Their menu looks nice as well. :pop:

WAVE

Haven't been to Waddington since the last NOMAD,(those were the days), and looking at some of the pics from this, I'm sorely tempted to head down there once again. Can I ask what time the WAVE parking area opens, and are there queues to get in. I think I saw somewhere folk were arriving at 4.15 AM t...

Re: Sigma 50-500mm swap

I had a similar experience with a Sigma lens of that type. I found it was to heavy, mine didn't have IS, which was a real drawback, and didn't really deliver especially when using lower f stops. I bought a canon 100-400 a couple of years ago, new, and wished I'd done it earlier. Got a nice 18-115 as...

Re: exercise chameleon

I'm never going to ID my Apache pics taken from my house, but the two Chinooks I may be able to. If anyone was at Leuchars for their arrival and got them, one of them had a mini gun sticking out the port, (left) window behind the cockpit, the other had the bubble window. Any Id for which is which?

Re: exercise chameleon

I had 2 Chinooks over the house at around 5.30 PM, on much the same route as the earlier Apaches, but a bit higher. At the time I saw the 3 Apaches, my sister said she saw 5 helicopters, with a lot of turning and weaving going on. Does anyone know if there was anything else going North at the same t...

Are B1 missions not 2 man crews now? Thought I read somewhere the two backseaters were done away with, and their tasks automated.

Thanks for the reggies. Had them over the house at 14.30 ish in the Scottish Borders. Not that I'll be able to ID them from the pics, at that height.

Just had the 3 of them over Hawick, in the Scottish Borders, heading North. Not showing on adsb as usual.
