Re: Lossiemouth Air SHow July '68

Wow! This is my favourite post on here for a long while! Amazing selection of aircraft on display and nicely captured. Have to say that one of the Red Arrow Gnats breaking is something else though. Made even more dramatic in the black and white in my opinion.

Thanks for sharing!

Re: Tornado GR4 Fleet General Info

This is my favourite section of this board. The callsigns, regardless of whether still active or not, together with the list of airframes again regardless of whether active or not, gives an excellent and comprehensive record of the Tornado GR4 fleet. These things when read in the context of the thre...

Re: Do Typhoons Drop To Low Level

I'd imagine they will if doing live cannon strafe runs at Tain. Otherwise, they may well do other electronic target practice from higher level than Tornado did. With the targeting kit on Typhoon, much can probably be done from a 'standoff' position rather than dropping to low level. Don't think the ...

Re: Tonka ont Ground

I gather that ZD741 'MacRobert's Reply' is not scheduled to be broken up any time soon and is likely to head into storage. Hopefully those RTP vultures will keep their scavenging claws off her.

Re: Marham 25-01-18 goodbye MacRobert's Reply

From what I hear, ZD741 MacRobert's Reply is not scheduled to be broken up any time soon. So she's likely to go into storage for the time being. Fingers, toes, eyes, legs etc crossed that she survives the RTP vultures and can be preserved as a static exhibit in future.

Re: Tornado GR4 Fleet General Info

Really sad that ZD741 has gone the way of RTP, rather than preservation for display. I guess she has a bounty of usable parts, however she is the last in the line of Tornado 'MacRobert's Reply' airframes and was the XV(R) Disbandment flagship. Yes, I'm the sentimental sort with this kind of thing! :(

Re: Tornado GR4 Fleet

ZD741 - 089 will depart for rtp within the next few weeks . Very saddened by this. The last 'MacRobert's Reply' GR4. By far my favourite Tornado and was lucky enough to get up close at Lossie last year. Some lovely touches on this jet such as the tailcode LS-F which was the code of the original Sho...

Re: Marham 6th and 8th November

Stunning shots. That first one with the five ship is a particular favourite of mine. A rarity and brilliantly captured. I think the old adage with Tornado used to be "brief as a four-ship, walk out as a three-ship, taxi out as a pair and take off as a singleton."

Re: US Navy UC-12 14/11

Any idea what time the Swiss headed out in the evening yesterday? I'd like to take my wee lad down to see them and the evening slot is the only time we could maybe manage. I saw blinking strobes and landing lights across the Firth last night on my way home at around 18:30 and presumed it was them, b...

Re: Your first ever military spotting trip, where, when etc?

Would have been circa 1988, as a 10 year old, stood at the end of runway 05 at Lossiemouth, watching in utter awe as a growling Shackleton appeared on the horizon and lumbered its way into the air and right over my head. I'd always seen and heard them fly over our house in Elgin and to this day the ...

First time I've seen 'Sir Roderic' in any form. Love the close up of the markings in the first shot. Nice to see the MacRobert legacy live on at Lossie after the departure of XV(R).

Re: Typhoon ZJ 919 ( New markings)

Really nice to see the MacRobert legacy live on at Lossie, albeit in a different form to 'MacRobert's Reply''. Following her donation in 1941 of £25,000 to purchase 'MacRobert's Reply, Lady Rachel MacRobert made a further donation of £20,000 to the RAF in 1942 for the purchase of four Hurricanes, th...

Just a superb set and well done on catching them low level heading south. Low with wings swept back, as they were meant to be. Thanks for posting those!

Re: FSX / Windows 10 update

Thanks Gary. I restored Windows back to pre-update version and FSX works perfectly fine again. The issue will be when Windows does an update again. Best I clock up some flying hours before that happens again then!

Cheers

FSX / Windows 10 update

Hi folks. Just looking to see if anyone has had the same issue as myself, and / or if anyone knows how to fix the issue. Last night on switching on my PC, which has Windows 10 OS, it ran through a series of updates. Once this was done, I started FSX and began setting up a flight through Flight Plann...

Re: Lossiemouth, one less Tornado and 'phoon-fest

Great shots, Wallace and a great sense of poignancy with the Kinloss Abbey photo in black and white. I understand that ZA588 Tornado is likely to head into storage at Marham, as have a few of the XV airframes and may fly again next year. Not quite ready for the RTP pile yet which is encouraging!
