Re: Afghanistan - mission accomplished?
If the Yanks + NATO + ANA forces couldn't stop the Taliban then the ANA is most unlikely to be able to do so on their own. And then the Taliban get their hands on some/all the ground & air kit that has been left behind - in that respect (only) it will depend on who they can "persuade" to show them h...

Re: camera bag needed
I got the Flipside 200 version when I got my camera and its much the same just smaller. I've been using a Flipside 200AW for 7-8 years as my "walkaround" bag for "grab and go" use, and that one I do like because it's doesn't have the same major issues as the Flipside 400 - and it's been very durabl...

Re: camera bag needed
Very late to the thread, but I've got the Lowepro bag (Flipside 400AW) that @Nescafe37 recommended - I got it very cheaply from another camera forum member, and it's "OK" but I can't really recommend it myself because, when laid on the ground, the main compartment flap won't stay opened when unzippe...

Ever since BJ became Mayor of London, my "description" for him has been "B.....S... Boris" (because that's what he often says/does!) - but I voted Tory regardless because the "alternative" was even less "palatable"!

Re: Russian Spy Ships Near RAF Lossiemouth
Go for it, Guys!
And maybe, if the Navy can find them, send a couple of biggish ships to continuously run up and down quite close to the Russkis to "rock them to sleep" (or NOT!)

TBH, I would totally avoid anything remotely related to AOL - very out-of-date and to be avoided at all costs

Re: “RAF accused of wasting money on 'outdated' F-35 warplanes“
FWIW: any county has to deal with BOTH the current/immediate future AND the "further out in the future in the future" threats - thus, how has the UK defence "leadership" (both military and government!) "concluded" that "TEMPEST" is the way forward and a potential consequent reduction in F-35 acquisi...

I also hope you are wrong because that could be the only airshow I'll get to this year..
Hope I'm wrong for those that are hoping to go!

Re: Kitchen wrapping
IMHO, in a kitchen, durability should be one of the first priorities - about 20 yrs ago we rebuilt (almost literally because it involved some structural changes and a lot of cabinet-modding because of the weird shape of the room!) the kitchen and my wife wanted wooden-faced cabinets. I said "not a c...

Sainsburys are even WORSE - as pointed out by Matt Allwright on the BEEB ONE SHOW a couple of days ago! :@ For weeks, I just COULD NOT get through to register us as vulnerable (I'm 72+ with difficulty in walking & standing, and SWMBO is 70 with Type 1 diabetes & asthma) and get onto the Click & Coll...

Re: Nuisance Calls
Had a very weird call today - an SMS text-to-voice message consisting of a "lady" reciting a string of randomly-chosen (or so it seemed)) alphabet letters, that went on for about 30 seconds, until I cut the call off! I suspect it was a connection to a premium-rate phone number - hope I'm not now in ...

Re: How crap is Windows update?
Still basically totally fine with Windows Update (when run from an SSD!) - but the lowest spec PC here (a circa 2012 nettop with a very low power AMD "E" series dual core processor, but an SSD!) got the updates this morning. Everything worked until I got a message that some updates could not install...

Re: How crap is Windows update?
Have you checked your settings regarding Windows updates? yes all checked just ran HP diagnostics no probs found its just taken 45 mins from turning on to password box showing :grr: Clone the HDD to an SSD, and - "in time" - that will fall to a couple of minutes or probably less :P All our "old " m...

Re: How crap is Windows update?
TBH (and "from experience" - really! ), any "oldish" m/c (ours' date from 2007 to 2016) that is still running the OS from an HDD, WILL struggle with the latest updates - nowadays all of our 6 W10 m/c's run the OS and the main Apps from SSD's, and that means that the W10 updates install "reasonably" ...

Re: How crap is Windows update?
strange thing is I had a look in programmes and some stuff is dated 2008 I didn't even have this PC then very odd Could have already been installed by "whoever" built, or sold you, the PC (assuming you didn't build it yourself) - many retail PCs come with a lot of such crap automatically (sometimes...

Ref the cancellation process - so far, after waiting about 15 mins or so to actually log into the site, the circulating icon has been going around, and around, and around, and around, and............. for nearly 2 hrs, and shows absolutely no signs of ever completing :grr: 2 hrs later - and no chang...

Re: How crap is Windows update?
FWIW, these should help: - if you still have an "Old Style" HDD, get an SSD, clone the HDD to the SSD (Macrium Reflect Free works very well) and then replace the HDD with the SSD (lot's of info on the net on how to do that). The only m/c here that has not been updated with an SSD runs like a real s...
