VC-9 at Warsaw Okecie Poland in 1997

Hi Would anybody be able to help fill in a gap in an old log book of mine, Noted at Warsaw Okecie ( now Chopin ) Poland on Tuesday 1st April 1997 was a USAF VC-9 in the Presidential colours ( 89 MAW ) this turned my head as the VC-9 were not particularly common in Europe. All clues welcomed - thanks

Re: '70s Carrier shots - Probably from Ark Royal

not too early in the 892 RN Phantom era either as the Phantom has the modified tail ( RWR ? ) at its tip - so circa 1975 onwards

Re: Canberra Anniversary Photo Call - May '89 Wyton

One of my memories from this event on 12th May 1989 was Gazelle ZA774 coming in from Northern Ireland with a heli telly ball fitted and being pushed into a hangar ( EW hangar I think ) - a quality visitor on the day.

Are there any based in the middle east?
We seem to have a small presence in a part of Syria - possible the Chinooks in Cyprus support this.

Re: Dutch Serial Long Shot

A-281 was in the UK as a Grasshopper in 1981 - however the Grasshoppers were regulars on the UK airshow scene for many years so would have been a frequent visitor. Same really for the F-27 C-3 - very frequent visitors to the UK from mid 70s onwards. Difficult to precisely tie up dates for such frequ...

That's sad news to hear.

Joe was great at research and compiling historical data - a true aviation historian.

Todays aircraft are tomorrow history.

Thanks Arnold - excellent photos and a delight to see. Some of these I recognise as visitors to Northolt in that era.

The Finnish Magisters were a surprise to see among your visitors - maybe to/from maintenance in France ?
