Re: Top five aircraft moments

For Me 1) IAT Greenham 1983 as a Scout on Litter Pick-up duty having somewhat better access to the aircraft than joe public, being invited into the cockpits of many, hospitality of the USAF was amazing 2) IAT Greenham 1983 again on litter pickups on departure day & getting the chance to sit in the c...

Re: Gate Guard question

laughable really, I'm sure the cadets could do it on a weekend morning with a standard domestic car washing solutions & a jetwash in return for a tour of the hangars or lunch in the mess.
Not as if they're ever going to fly again so need specialist treatments.

Thats really sharp! I think you have all said enough to push me to calibrate via a pro company...

Will likewise let you know once I have had it done!

Re: If you had to move to another airfield...

Well being up on Tyneside apart from Leeming there's not a lot of regular traffic. for me would have to be Coningsby or Lakenheath & I promise never ever to complain about any noise.

Re: Red Arrows across North America Documentary Series

OK some of the commentary was a bit OTT, they did over dramatize the crossing of the Atlantic somewhat but..... lets remember who the audience is. Every factual TV show is over dramatized in order to keep the viewer hooked, lets face it the Atlantic crossing was actually a fairly major undertaking l...

RIAT 81 Greenham Common. XM594 now at Newark Air Museum. On the Sunday, sitting in the grandstand right in front of the Tower at the 5000' (midpoint) mark. The Vulcan had taxied to the Hammerhead and run the final power checks. It then taxied out to the threshold, but kept moving. I thought it had ...

Re: RAF St Mawgan De Havilland Mosquito

The only act of vandalism at an air show that I can think of was at IAT 83 at Greenham Common, when a group of Peace Women protesters infiltrated the airbase and threw white paint over the SR-71 that was in the static. They also painted a KC135 during the same visit, I was on Litter collection duty...

Being returned to Airtanker. Expect TC vinyl to come off in th next day or two and returned to suport RAf trooping flights.
It'd be a good photo op to put the pods back on & go off tankering in Airline livery.

Re: RAF BAe146 fleet to be sold

How about some A310 MRTT's with Booms

Then you could utilise the VIP fit A330 for Long trips, An A310 or 2 in VIP fit for shorter Trips.
Then we can also refuel all of our nice shiny toys that don't use probes.

Re: ITV series - Fighter Pilot, the real Top Gun

I enjoyed it from start to finish. It was obviously a PR exercise for the F35 hence the Typhoon being seen as 2nd Best (Although clearly not in the looks department) The F35 is somewhat growing on me though, must get to Marham at some point & seem some live one's, maybe wait till we have a few more ...

Maybe it was the backseaters last tour or suchlike before leaving either these shores or the USAF totally, so was his way of saying goodbye.

Re: Blue skies?

My take is if the day is grey, the pictures are grey.

If the sky is blue the pictures have blue sky, Sun & I remember that cracking day I had at XX

Personal choice though

Ps I'm still learning how to use photoshop/lightroom so changing the sky is also well over my skillset unless it's a preset.

OK it may have been a bit cringeworthy for those of us with some knowledge but we need to remember that it's aimed at the mainstream public.
