1:400/1:500 Model Stands/Risers

I have some clear Perspex stands that are surplus to requirements. They were specially made for me by a local company and I had to take a minimum quantity. As I won't be expanding my collection for a while I won't be needing any for the time being. The dimensions are. 220x80x40mm 3mm thick £3.50 98x...

Re: Eldorado Canyon - 14th April 1986

I remember that all radio traffic was eerily quiet the evening of the attack. It was as if everything else was on the ground keeping out of the way of the strike aircraft and their tankers to get airborne. The next morning it was a totally different matter, I had to drag myself away from my scanner ...

Re: MOD Wethersfield

I haven't noticed the fire extinguisher, but at the back of the fire service's area on the corner nearest the WSA there is a large disused gate (I guess the USAF used this to access the WSA), now next to this gate there is an old 50's era sign and siren on top of a concrete post, I've looked up at ...

Re: MOD Wethersfield

The 'Victor Alert' area is still pretty much as it was back in the day, although somewhat neglected the barns and dispersals still stand, as does the crew quarters for that area. The only area I've really had a good mooch around is the part currently used by Essex County Fire & Rescue Service, I be...

Re: MOD Wethersfield

I remember Wethersfield from the early 60s - drive in through the main entrance, receive a nice salute from the guard, drive further into the base, read off the visiting aircraft (discretely!) and drive out again. Good times! TM74 Yes, good times indeed. A friend of mine actually had access to the ...

Re: MOD Wethersfield

I used to think Wethersfield tower was a classic , bit different from most with lovely wood cladding as I recall . Don't know if its still standing. It was a classic and as far as I know the only one of it's type. It had the 5223a/51 style VCR built on a WWII type tower. In fact much of Wethersfiel...

I wonder if that 'Roger' could have been the legend of Mildenhall that was Roger Hoefling :S Not only a superb commentator, able to speak to all age groups and levels of interest, but a positive mine of info for the masses assembled :thumb: Cheers Paddyboy  Yes, a fantastic commentator, did a...

Re: Duxford October Bimbles ~ *UPDATE 2~25Oct15*

Shame about the F100.
Has a reason been given for it's departure?

Considering the part played by the F100's in the UK from the late 1950's to about 1970 I'd have though it was an important exhibit.

P.S Nice photos by the way.

Re: Farewell flt

Sooner or later commercial interests will push 558 out of the picture. There will, most likely, be a reduction in income as time goes on. Hangar space will become expensive and we may well see what has happened to aircraft grounded at other airports where they have slowly been pushed out. Bruntingth...

Re: Hawker Hunter crashed at Shoreham

How exactly is the CAA reaction knee jerk? It is the most sensible course of action they could take under the circumstances. The type is grounded pending the outcome of the investigation and vintage jets are being limited to less strenuous maneuvers for the time being. They would be hung, drawn and...

It's probably there so that crews can make a note of it for Nectar Points next time it's wheeled past a Sainburys super store :P
