Re: Lakenheath "Excalibur VII"
I was told that originally the base commander was not going to charge for entry. However some crazy old legal ruling said that if you did not charge for entry you had no legal control over the visitors.!! That same legal ruling inferred that by paying for entry you agreed to the sites terms and cond...

Re: RAF Boeing H-47ER
H-47ER is similar akin to the Nightstalkers MH-47G. Not really as an MH-47G has a range of 860 miles, and this H-47ER will get a range of 1200miles.....That's REALLY impressive !! 1200 miles estimated range seems a bit unusual being so much more than the US special forces version already in use. Yo...

Re: Star Wars is here.
I seem to recall reading somewhere that lasers were good for distance and head on use, but they had a problem when trying to track the target when it was flying passed you. Like you would pan your camera as an aircraft flew passed at speed.
Does anybody else recall this ?

V-22 Osprey Grounded
As a result of last weeks crash, the D.O.D. has grounded all variants of the V-22 until they can determine the cause. Wording of news release infers a problem with the aircraft and not pilot error was the cause.

Maybe “RAF” Prestwick is not such a joke after all !!!
The Scottish Government want to sell it and the US military seem to be regular users.

Re: Lakenheath - nuclear store
I would have the that in the event of “war”, nuclear or otherwise, all military facilities in the UK would become targets , army, airforce, navy
and support/ manufacturing sites. Not just frontline US bases supposedly holding nuclear weapons.

Re: Fond Memories of American Air Days
I remember one of the American Air Days I attended. I was chatting to a couple of security police guys who were located crowd side across the barriers from “Sally B”. They had brought along one of their US style police cars and kids were all over it , especially sounding the sirens and horns almost ...

RAF Falcons cleared on C17
Apparently the RAF Falcons Parachute Team are now cleared to drop from the C17.
I wonder if it will be doing a low level flypast over / behind the assembled team for a final salute like the C130 used to do ?

Australia buying C130J
Australia has announced that it is to buy 20 x new C130J Hercules from Lockheed. Maybe they know something our MOD “experts “ have missed !! Personally I still remain to be convinced that we can do without a small number of them for Special Forces etc. I have visions of Atlas airframes being maroone...

Further F35 acceptance delayed by Pentagon
Apparently the Pentagon is refusing to accept any further F35 until the latest updated equipment is adequately tested. This could mean no more F35 deliveries this year forcing Lockheed to store up to 80 airframes until testing is completed. .Info from Defense One news.

BBMF fighters grounded
Reported that Merlin engined fighters operated by the BBMF have been grounded due to possible engine defects. RAF say going ahead with displays could be dangerous to both pilots and audiences. Don’t know if the Lanc is included in this decision. Info from a Kent local newspaper covering an Armed For...

F111 & F15 changeover at Lakenheath
I think old age is creeping in and the memory is not what it was !!
Can anyone advise if all the F111 left Lakenheath before the F15 arrived. Were there any mixed flying like we have today with F15 & F35 ?

U.A.E. Cancels H225 order from Airbus
Apparently the UAE has cancelled their order with Airbus for 12 x H225 helicopters. They give their reason saying that they will be too expensive to operate and maintain . They also claim that they cannot easily be updated or modified in the future for a change of use easily !! Info from Breaking De...

Re: Cobra Warrior 23
With regard to the Brize notam stating no visiting aircraft due to WIP. Could it be that due to work being carried out, and with the extra aircraft for the exercise, Brize will then be operating at its limit. ?
